Ok i have come to the point in my gun collection that I want a good high power rifle I have a .303 lee enfield but I was looking for somthing a little more modern and possibly in a 30-06. Of course something that won't cost more than 1500 . Thanks in advance .

30-06 is not exactly modern...

Bolt or Semi? 22cal or 30cal??
You can buy AR10s and AR15s with freefloated stainless bull barrels, but they might cost a tad above $1500. Consider buying a non-custom varmint bolt-action such as the Tikka T3, which can be bought for under $1500.

Ok,

So on a $1500 budget, does that include taxes, shipping, optics, etc?

Or is that $1500 for the rifle alone?

Do you already have a rifle in 30-06 and desire to standardize your ammo and reloading components, or are you willing to consider other calibers?

Is reloading componenents and equipment factored into the $1500 too?

Basically, if you want a 30-06, you're going to look at one of the HK-940's (I think) or maybe a BLR.

If you're willing to switch over to .308, there's M-14's/M1A's.

If you want to go with .223, you might find a used SL-8 in your price-range.

More information would be helpful, but I will suggest visiting Wolverine Supplies (see link at the top of the page) and look around at what they have...you might see something you like.

for that kind of money you could get a top of the line remington 700, or the Tikka Tactical are an excellent rifle. I have a Remy 700 heavy barrel in a Mcmillien stock. scary accurate in my books. look for a 700 police version, there's a few on the EE board right now. they are around $850-$950. so you could still scope it and stay within your budget! it sounds like you are going about this the smart way. and being willing to invest some real coin helps too! I hope you enjoy whatever you decide to buy.

Buying a new tactical rifle

How about one of the Savage Law Enforcement series rifles, with the AccuTrigger? Or as another member mentioned one of the Remington 700 Police rifles. Do they import the Steyr SSG 69's? I like my old SSG 69 P2 in 308. It's not as accurate as a custom built rifle but it does everything I want it to do. If you aren't sure go to some ranges and see what others are using.

Oh and I am not looking for a "sniper" class so I think this should go in Black and green. Thanks

Sorry, this doesn't belong in the Black Rifle Forum.;)

It should have gone here in the Precision Rifle Forum.

get yourself a 700P or a Savage 10fpLe in mc millan stock.

Ok i was gonna post a pic but imageshack has its head up it's butt and wont resize the image

Here's a great sub-moa shooter straight out of the box. It's a Savage 10 FPLE with a Choate Ultimate Sniper stock. Wholesale Sports has them for around $770 or so. If you want to upgrade your can do it as easy as a Ruger 10/22 with no gunsmith needed. Here's a pic of my Savage. It comes in .308 and .223. Mine's a 223
Good luck on whatever you purchase.
