It has unfortunately come to pass that I must turf the Auto-5 because it's just not worth having a shotgun that can only cycle lead. It's great for sharp-tail grouse, but not practical to have a different gun and carry lead.
I just want one gun, and though there will be different sizes, I'll only have one shot type in case F&G rolls up. I can hit sharpies with any load, and #4 for ducks, #2 for geese.... Now I just need a gun that will shoot it and shoot it well.

So, what is in your opinion the best P/A and semi 12 gauge shotgun out there at a reasonable price. I'd love a Binelli, but I'd also love a Bentley, private jet and a new house.

So far, studies have lead to

Pump: Remington 870

Semi: Mossberg 930/935

Thoughts?

 One shotgun!!!!!! I have a 935 I use just for waterfowl ( I hunt geese & ducks only off decoys in fields ) but it seems too heavy for an upland gun. I have a Beretta A303 and a Franchi O/U for most upland and when I feel traditional my old 1926 Parker comes out. Seriously though ,for an all round gun I'd get a 3" chambered semi and if cost is an issue lots of good things have been said said about Mossy 930's or you could go on the EE and look for a used "B" gun that would fit your needs.

I used a mossberg 535 for a few years on geese ducks and anything with wings really.

now I use a beretta extrema 2. Awesome awesome gun. Its cheaper than a benelli too, though still what I would call the upper end for hunting shotguns.

used it through last season and killed more geese and ducks last year than the previous two years combined.

not sure if it fits into your price range, but its been around a couple years, you might be able to find a used one. Great guns though, worth every penny in my opinon

Ream your Auto 5 to Modified trust me you will be happy , I have a Bakail MP153 in Camo it and it's peeling off after two seasons, I keep loosing my cocking lever and the safety is constantly put into fire position by barely brushing it . I shoot a lot of ducks and geese , I have a 870 , A Baikal Mp 154 , a Ruger Red Label, a Berretta and and a model 12 . I still luv my bored Auto 5 magnum. It was designed in 1898 and is still considered 2nd best waterfowl gun ever in a Survey by Delta waterfowl. I had mine bored and added a ram line stock. it's dependable and the hump backs sightline is perfect. My son just got a Maxus and it's pretty sweet too

1 gun!!! Silly talk! I have a Baikal semi I like. A couple 12 ga range guns,20s'& 410 etc. The first thing you need to do is see what make/model fits you. I have 2 o/u and have had a few others. Some beat the hell out of me. Too short a stock & you miss. If it is where it needs to be when you snap it up while looking at only the target, 'tis good. Best if you can try some of your buddies guns & go from there.
