I would like to swap out the regular 24" barrel on a Weatherby Vanguard S2 in .308 Win. for a 20" heavy bull barrel 1:12 twist. Can someone recommend a good barrel manufacturer, preferably Canadian, that could meet my order. I was going to get the Vanguard Sub-Moa with the heavy barrel but there are none available in Canada as far as I know. If anyone knows of any Canadian retailers still carrying the Sub-Moa, let me know. Thank you for the information.

Any CGN Sponsors can put a barrel on for you and if I was you with a 20" barrel go with a 1/10 twist over a 1/12

juanvaldez,Mystic and ATR Rick can set you up

For a Canadian manufacturer, Ted Gaillard makes excellent match quality barrels.

Ben's comment answers the question. Ted makes great barrels; have a few and Sam Adams, fine gunsmith, has chambered many, all fine.

Peter

Thank you for all the information. I actually found a Weatherby Sub-Moa in .308 and I purchased it this morning for $669 brand new. Merry Christmas to me! This rifle comes with a 24" heavy barrel in 1:12 twist. For now I will see how it handles in the bush and see how it shoots 175gr hand loads. If I find I am encumbered by the extra 24" or if the barrel does not handle the 175gr bullets well, I will be contacting all of the barrel manufacturers recommended thus far in search of a better barrel. I appreciate all the help and I will be posting a range report just as soon as I can get out to shoot.

BTW. This rifle is on pillar bedding and NOT floated. Weatherby claims that their testing has shown that Weatherby barrels with a #3 contour or less need to be supported and they do not recommend floating the barrel. Does anyone have an educated opinion about this statement? Is this sales hype? Should I not aluminium bed and float this rifle? Ill be speaking to some smiths about this, but, the more information I have the better. Thanks once again.
