So tell me, am I totally crazy in thinking that I just do not want the dovetail receiver? I've had many and HATE them with a passion. There's no good (I'm talking like really good) rings that work well. I've been through this too many times to know better. My current CZ 550 UCS (up for sale on the EE) came with a dovetail and I had the CZ Custom shop mill it off and install a picatinny rail. It's heaps nicer now. Mounting my scope is a breeze. It's so painless. And I can use my nice Nightforce titanium/aluminum rings

A picatinny rail is better and if you don't like the DIP conversion rails your choices are limited. I use the AI mounts but they do weigh a bit! Its a trade off as most regular 22lr imports use the 11mm dovetails. The AI is solid and mounts directly to the dovetail with no play. I can hang a heavy NV system off the front without it moving. All about choices and your budget buys you lots of that! Good luck on the build!

You figure a dovetail with slots milled in it (pic rail) held on with 4 - #6 screws is better then a dovetail milled right on the action?
A pic rail milled on the action is best but I'm not sure you could find one.
The DIP rail on my CZ has held good so far. I wouldn't use it on a center fire but for rimfire it seems to hold just fine.

I can’t speak for the dovetail milled with slots. Haven’t payed much attention to the Anschutz one in the past. I’m thinking more about ease of switching my scope on/off and putting different sights on it. I do a LOT of grouse hunting with my .22 and I have had the best luck with my Aimpoint Micro T-1 (2 MOA). It’s mounted on an American Defense (ADM) QD mount, and I throw it on my KIDD with 16.5" barrel and head off into the bush. Head shots out to 50 yds. This would not be possible if I had a lousy dovetail on my Kidd. Slots or not, dovetails are inferior.

Those are definitely nice rigs, but not quite what I’m in the market for. I’m looking for an Audi or Porsche, not a Ferrari

John, I spoke to Mike last night briefly and will talk again Monday. He needs to check if he can mill off the receive and install a picatinny scope rail. He told me it wouldn't be a problem last time we spoke a few months ago, but now he was unsure. Fingers crossed. I'm not sure I'll move forward if he can't. After all, my Supergrade in McMillan STC will be hard to beat in the accuracy dept.
