Looking for a hunting camp

Good morning everyone,

I have recently moved to Kingston Ontario and am hoping anybody would have any good leads on a hunting camp that is accepting new hunters

I am a relatively new hunter, I started duck hunting and turkey last year. I mainly use shotgun but also have a bow. I find that crown land is hit and miss and when I pay for a one day hunting experience it really starts to add up

I have no problem paying yearly fees or whatever the case might be. It would be my first camp so I’m not sure how the process goes. I’m more then happy to talk more about myself if needed.

I know migratory bird hunters who hire outfitters/guides to put them on the flocks in rural eastern Ontario. You'll pay some cha-ching, but depending on how much access your guy has, you are probably going to limit out faster than squatting in a frozen blind looking at your dozen Cabella's decoys questioning your life.

The most important component of hunting is location. Knowledge of locations, access to locations. New hunters figure that out pretty fast, but they don’t catch on quite as fast how hard won, time consuming and expensive that knowledge and experience was to get. What you are asking is not a small thing.
 
Hunt camps out here usually run on a share type system plus dues. The shares at the camp I go up to as a guest (calabogie area) are around 16 500$ if I remember correctly. 10 shares in the camp although they bought one guy out a few years ago so they're 9 on it for now.

Your share value is only what you put in over the years, usually from buying more land or making big upgrades. No inflation and no increase if the land value goes up. The point is to keep the camp, it's not seen as an investment you could cash out on that's why it's set up this way.

Hard to get in though as they have to vote on new members and they gotta know you very well. Mostly all family and close family friends. I could likely buy the last share but all the guys that I get along better with there are getting up there in age so I don't know if it'd be worth it for me vs just going up as a guest until my geezers are all gone then figuring something else out later

Anyways, not much help for your situation but it's some insight on how alot of camps work out this way.

Hunt camps out here are usually more of a deer/moose/bear proposition. You wont find a goose or turkey camp. For that your best bet is just to find a local gang and try to get invited out a few times, keep in touch, show up and if everyone gets along next thing you know you'll be one of the regulars.

One thing you could to is try keep an eye out for pickups with a dog box in the back and an antenna on the roof in the winter. Many of the guys running hounds on coyotes are getting older in age and may welcome some younger blood with a pair of showshoes that's willing to walk in and catch dogs. Might give you an in if you find the right guy. But again it can be hard getting into those groups as well.
