I found these 2 from Halo for under $200 on Amazon Canada. They seem to get good reviews:

Anybody ever own one of these, or suggest a reasonably priced one?

hmmm, I wouldn't go cheaper than the Bushnell ARC 1000
there are issues at work as (but not limited to):
- the rangefinder might range as advertised but from a tripod (i.e. not handheld)
- the rangefinder might not range in the rain
- the rangefinder might range on a reflective surfaces but not on fur-coated animals.
- many other issues :)

Thanks for the advice.

I also found a leupold rx600i at Wholesale Sports her in Winnipeg for $230. Will check that out.

I've had a low end Simmons and now have a Sig Kilo 2000. The Sig was worth the money, it has ranged out to 1300 meters for me. The Simmons best was about 350 yards.

In my experience a rangefinder will never range the distance it is rated for in the field. Sure it'll range a barn at 1000 yards but is that really what you're shooting at? I love my kilo 2000 but i'd be lying if I told you I could range a deer at 1500 yards with it. I've got ranges of 1700 on a TV tower but the best I've got in the field was a horse at 900 yards.

I picked up a Nikon Prostaff 7i and have been very happy with it, got it online at Cabellas when they had a free shipping promo. Their price was the best I could find online anywhere in Canada.

Leupold is a good one for the money, but nothing can beat Leica or Swarovski. With my Swaro rangefinder, I don't even need binoculars. Yes, it doesn't have such features as TBR, for example, but it does have a fantastic, crystal clear glass, and very precise and fast measurement.

I just made a deal for a Leica spotting scope next and last piece equipment will be Leica range finding binoculars and I'm ready for sum serious Mountain hunting

I currently have three. Bushnell(can't recall the model), Leupold(1000 w/TBR) and Leica 1600B. The Bushnell was OK for the money but just OK. I really like the Leupold for bowhunting but for anything beyond 350yards or so that was furry, it wasn't very useful. The Leica has done nothing but impress and continues to do so. Glass is great. Super fast readings. Had I the opportunity to do it all over I'd treat it like I do binoculars and buy once, cry once.
