Looking for a Light weight mountain rifle

I have a Kimber Montana in 7mm08 it's a great light rifle, shoots really well. Trigger is very nice, I would highly recommend it.

I will have to look into the Kimber.
Lighter is better as was stated ever ounce counts when you are up and down in the mountains.

Yukon'er, welcome to CGN. You will enjoy it here.

You can find 50 year old Husqvarna rifles like this one that weigh less than 7 1/2 pounds with scope, ammo and sling for considerably less than $1200.

This one is a 270, makes that weight easily, is very accurate, and there are lots of them around. Newer is not always better.

I've never hunted in the mountain so excuse my ignorance. But from what I see on "tv" lol yes I said it. It's some long range shooting. Is the 1 or 2lbs less weight really worth it? Wouldn't you want a slightly heavier barrel and stock to have a nice accurate rifle? I mean a 8lb scoped gun or a 9lb can't be that much of a difference. I hunt in thick bush and usually don't even sling the gun. I like it in my hands. Just used to bow hunting I guess. I understand you don't want a 20lb f class gun. But anything 10lbs or under should be good no?

It sort of depends. Some of the mountain hunting is brutal enough that cutting the labels off your gotch, taking the wrappers off your chocolate bars, and spending a week deciding whether 3 extra cartridges is enough or wildly excessive starts seeming sane. Guys pick their hunting knives by weight never mind their rifles, and remember this is the crowd that invented the spork because they wouldn't be caught dead carrying both a fork and a spoon up the side of a mountain.

Taking a pound or two off a rifle doesn't seem like much when you're strolling around on the prairies. Taking a pound or two off of everything that can't be left behind makes perfect sense when you're on the side of a mountain and you quit caring whether you live or die a few hours ago.;)
