I was about to order a 12.5 mag-fed from CanAm, secured with an electric gunlock of course. I don't need a stock, I want a pistol-type grip. What I want is something that is as short as legally possible.

Problem is, CanAm doesn't give out the specs for overall length etc. I know I need a min. of 26". What would I need to do to a 12.5" mag-fed in order to achieve this minimum length with a pistol grip, or are there any other solutions out there?

PS: Yes, I did a 15 minute search. And yes, I'm sure it's buried in here somewhere. But I have precious little time as it is and can't afford to spend hrs of it sifting thru months of posts/threads.

Thank you in advance for humouring me ;)

14.5 would rbe the shortest you can do and use a pistol grip

Ive heard the knoxx folder keeps a 12.5 just over 26" right? maybe their breeching grip would work too, its about the same length. A single point sling mount behind the reciever could help a little too. Would be kinda neat for a cqb pistol grip if it would work. Just my 2 cents.

Pistol grip only shotguns, with any barrel length, are the most useless things on Earth.

For general use, I'd agree with you. However, for the use the OP has in mind, it's pragmatic. As short as possible while maintaining non-restricted. Detachable magazine so loading 5 rounds is done in one motion, not five seperate motions. A push button trigger lock fixed to the wall satisfies the minimum storage requirements.

For range use, I'd like the Knoxx CompStock, but for closet storage I'd like the Knoxx Breacher.

The Knoxx folder or breaching grip will be too short on 12.5 but it should be ok on a 14".

If you want a pistol grip only shotgun than I think you're better of with something like a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 with a pistol grip, it will be roughly the came length as a shotgun with a 14" barrel and a Knoxx breaching stock but you will have 1 or 2 extra rounds, depanding if you yse an extention on the 14".

Yes, I can confirm that a knoxx top-folder keeps the overall length just over 26 inches.

I have one for sale in the EE right now, actually.

thanks for clearing that up guys, I wasnt sure. As for the mossberg 500 suggestion, I like the crossbolt safety of the maverick 88 for PGO, reaching up and over to get at your safety would change things very quickly when you discover you forgot about it until you needed to fire. FYI a mossberg 500/maverick 88 with mossberg pistol grip and 18.5" bbl is about 28" OAL, very leightweight and a blast to shoot with managed recoil slugs, very manageable with standard 2 3/4" and un-fun with 3" :D ask my how I know... but thats just my perspective. Another idea is pick up a 12.5" mag fed and find a 14" Norinco barrel for it to go breachers grip with it, or top folder for added versatility. You may need to take out a zombie at longer range :ninja:

Thanks to all for your responses, much appreciated! And yes, Canuck223 hit the nail on the head. 'Nuff said! ;)

So my option is a 14" mag-fed Grizzly or a 12.5" with a top folder. I was hoping for the shortest combo possible. One last attempt. How about a 12.5" Grizzly with a modded pistol grip to give me the necessary minimum OAL? Modded by means of a hump at the rear of the pistol grip, maybe?

I'm surprised that there aren't accessories to address these particular kinds of needs, 'specially here in Canada.

If you use Badboybeeson's AR/870 stock/grip adapter, how much length will the buffer tube give you?

The Knoxx top folders put the 12.5 right at 26", too close considering the shotgun can slide shorter in the recoil absorbing stocks.
