Looking for a Mossberg 500A 18inch barrel...

Someone sold me a Mossberg 500A shotgun on FirearmCanada site with a defective barrel. Anyone know where I can get a new replacement barrel for my Mossberg 500a? I'm looking for a 18 inch flat barrel (without the sight). Does anyone knows if it's difficult to replace the barrel? Thanks.

How long is your defective barrel and where is the defect? If it is a long barrel and the defect is near the muzzle the barrel might be salvaged by shortening it. To remove and replace a Mossberg 500 barrel , make sure unloaded , open the action a couple of inches by pulling the slide back a short distance, now unscrew the knurled nut at the front end of the magazine. When the nut is free of the magazine the barrel can be pulled forward out of the receiver. The bolt locks into the top of the barrel within the receiver, so if the barrel won't come out the bolt needs to be farther back to unlock.

Should be about $75 - $80 bucks to replace, and it goes on in a few seconds.
Only use your hands to tighten the barrel nut.

And yah exactly what is wrong with the one it came with?
How is it defective?

Bet it is bulged just ahead of the forcing cone before the retaining block. I have a barrel that has just that.... Damned buying sight unseen

Thanks for the information guys, I went with PrairieMedic’s suggestion. Ordered a new 500 police 18.5 barrel. The original barrel was sawed off prior to been shipped to me. There was nothing in the ad from firearmscanada c o m indicating that the barrel was sawed off. I was stunned to discover this - the work was not done by a professional or competent gunsmith - totally barbaric and primitive – you can even see the saw and burn marks as well. The original owner claims that he was unaware of this. I will give him the benefit of a doubt – he seems to be a gentleman and will pay for the replacement. I wish I could save the old barrel but it is sawed off ½ inch too short to be legal. Maybe I could add a choke to compensate for the length? Any suggestion?

IMHO The old barrel is now a jack handle.
