Looking for a new pistol... Something "historic"?

S&W 1917 or Pre-victory revolver are fun and reasonably accurate. BHP's are nice shooters too.
But for pure fun for your $$$, Tokarev...lots of nice ones still around, post war Russian or Polish are probably the nicest condition. Chinese have chrome bores which is a plus, and there are new production Yugo as well. They are loud and you have to be careful not to set the target stands on fire lol.

Another vote for the TT33.

Also, you can load your own and reduce that snappy recoil down to about 9mm standards, if you aren't into shooting the corrosive milsurp ammo.

It sounds like you might also be looking for something to sparkle up your handgun shooting. I don't know about you but for me standing still and perforating paper got old pretty quickly. So I spiced things up by getting into some of the various handgun competitions around here.

I also enjoy owning and shooting a few of the classic style guns. But for myself it's just more fun to use them at the various competitions.

I don't think anybody mentioned the Radom Vis P35. Very nice gun to shoot..... some call them an "improved" BHP. Many around are occupation era which adds to the historic aspect.

I guess it also depends on if you restrict yourself to military sidearms. Certainly the Luger is iconic in that catagory (along with the 1911 and perhaps the Webley) For more general "historic" I think you'd also have to include the Colt SAA, an early S&W K frame and perhaps the Civil Was era cap and ball revolvers. There are also a host of early/mid 20th century European semi auto pistols. Sadly, most of them are prohibited due to barrel length or caliber. (Walther PPK comes to mind)

Hard to beat a Civil war pistol in very good condition.

My choices were TT and P38. I like to shoot all my firearms regularly and it's a good thing I didn't get P38 and ended up with a TT. I had 3 TT's, kept pre war one. Ammo is inexpensive, thing eats even SMG ammo and can be fired at the range on regular basis like any modern pistol. P38 is also pretty nice but from what I've seen it can't really take regular use well. I know of 4-5 that broke from regular use, all in exactly the same place. Slide cracks. One was even welded back by a gunsmith, cracked after 1-2 mags again. I believe that was a topic here about one, all matching, non RC one cracking the slide.

All good choices, nobody's mentioned the Beretta 1951 yet , definitely a interesting burner.

Beretta 1951 , can still be had for a good price, its a 9mm , but mags can be hard to find .

Walther P1, 9mm , mags are easy to get , try to get the P1 with a heavier slide, easiest way to tell the heavier slide, the cocking serrations go past the thumb safety.

Thing about those 2 , there's a limited supply of them in the world and they're price not to bad right now.

Browning HP would be my first choice, but they're priced a little high , the Turkish copys sound like a good alternative.

1911 , you got to have a least one at some point in your life, only downside to old slab side is ammo cost, but you can customize it to you heart's content.

CZ75, still lots out there, you won't find anything that fits your hand like a cz75, only issue, some guns can be picky about mags , as in , you can buy 2 mags from the same place and 1 will work perfectly, the other one , not so much, strange.

Tokarev, cheap , lots of ammo around, big muzzle flash ,fun gun.

Smith and Wesson model 10 , still a few kicking around for a not to bad price, most people seem to hang on to them , .38 can be a little pricey.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned a Lahti, a very robust 9mm with grip angle somewhat like a Luger. Not a common gun, but also only restricted, not prohibited, and available for cheaper than most Lugers. Mine has an excellent trigger and is very accurate. Also 9mm is the cheapest pistol ammo you can buy.

The Lathi is nice, mags are pretty cheap... but the pistol is seldom seen for sale
