So yea im lookin for a nice plinking, yote gun and I wanna have just a nice set of irons on it, no scope, why no scope? simple I want the challenge of no scope, and I have enough scoped rifles already, does anyone know of any modern rifles that still come with irons? or do I got to find something used? id take anything from .223 up to .308 and anything in between I have looked around but maybe someone here knows something I don't.

Zastava M70 or M85 bolt action guns. TradEx and Corwin-Arms carry them in pretty much any caliber you could want, decent open sights, adjustable triggers (I've tweaked my M85 to a crisp 3lb pull ). Accurate out of the box. Hundreds $$ cheaper than comparable CZ's.

The CZ's will have better fit and finish.

You can get both in 7.62x39, which I know seems like an odd choice for a sporting bolt action, but it's a hard hitting cartridge, a good hunting round will take a white tail in 1 shot. But you can also shoot cheap surplus (just clean after shooting) of 17 cents a round, which makes it cheap enough to shoot for casual plinking, or even high volume varminting.

Just throwing it out there.

If it is for learning and fun consider a receiver peep sight. Levers are commonly drilled and tapped for them. A 30-30 lever is available used and would be my recommendation. I used iron sights years ago and when I switched to peep sights I never looked back.

CZ makes a nice rifle. If I was considering your needs and a barrel sight it would be a CZ527 Carbine model in 223 or 7.62X39. Reciever sights are available but I don't have any idea on how available in Canada.

A milsurp or sporterized Lee Enfield No.4 or No.5 might be a consideration.

This is exactly what I was going to post.

I highly recommend the CZ 527, mine is the full stock version in .223.

I chose to swap out the factory sights for an NECG ghost ring and the brass faced patridge insert for the factory front sight ramp. I have the rifle scoped with Warne QD ring mounts, so I can swap back and forth and the sight settings, both scope and irons, are surprisingly repeatable. The front sight hood is open on top to allow sunlight in, but I found it puts a shadow on the flat face of the front sight, so when I'm shooting with irons, I take it off, then replace it to protect the sight when not actually shooting. With the irons, my handloads were making MOA 3 shot groups at 100.

You may want/have to tweak the trigger which is fully adjustable. Once it was correctly adjusted, mine is as good as the best after market triggers available on a Remington 700.

The really good news though is that unlike American styled stocks, this one has a low enough comb that shooting with irons is natural, yet is not too low for a scope mounted in medium height rings, should you choose to scope it in the future. Finding a rifle these days that actually has an optimum comb height for shooting with irons is far from common.

I don't like the small Euro sling swivels, so I drilled the swivel studs out so I could use Uncle Mike's QD swivels. I may get the rifle bedded at some point in the future, but I'm having so much fun with it right now, I'm not in a rush.

Maybe a 7600 in .243 ? I'd remove the factory rear sight however, and replace with a Williams Guide Receiver (peep) sight.

Surprisingly accurate and also makes a pretty decent deer rifle.
