The 7-08 in a Ruger Compactsi a nice light combo. The frontier has a thicker barrel IIRC

if you can find a Winchester Trapper in 30-30 or .44 mag that would be great too.

I have a .308 lever action works great and ammo is readily available, might be something to consider.

my vote would be with 7mm/08 drops them dead like they have been hit with lightning,mild recoil and you can buy almost any brand rifle in it. I think they are the most under rated caliber out there.

before you go out and buy one, consider putting your cheek up to a S&W 29 and pulling the trigger. The IMI and SW both weigh the same.
