I have a piece of #### Remington 597 that I want to get rid of and replace with another semi-auto .22. I already have a SR-22 so I'm not really interested in another Ruger. Mossberg and Marlin's current line isn't really appealing to me, CZ and Browning are far more than I want to spend. The Savage 64 TRR-SR seems to be at the top of the list, however I am more interested in something with iron sights. I can always put a simple red dot or 1x28 optic on the Savage if need be, but is there any other semi auto with iron sights in the price range of 250-350.....

I would just upgrade some parts on your remington, to make it like a new gun, and be dependable.... Either that, or buy a different model of ruger 10/22... If you could save up, or find a used cz 512, that would probably make you the happiest though.

I'm not a fan of savage semi-auto rimfires, but I do like there bolt action rimfires.

I have number of semi's. I my mind once you get past the trigger on the CZ 512 it is hard to beat. Rem 552 is nice. I have a number of 10/22s most of them built up, only one is stock (DSP). To make them shoot well you need to spend some $$.

I have no desire of spending any money on this Remington as I'm certain it needs a new barrel after a thorough cleaning and bore inspection, it appears that the barrel has what can only be described as corrosion, and it's been like this since I got it. I have had the rifle just over a year and it has never shot very well with any ammo. I'm done with Remington. After all the poor reviews I have read, complains I've heard and experience with this rifle and their ####ty ammo, they are not getting another dime of my money.

What are your complaints about the Savage semis? I have 2 bolt action rimfires and 2 centerfire and they are excellent guns, but have never shot one of the semis...

The savage 64 has been around for a long while as the cooey 64. I have shot a few older cooey 64 and have no complaint's. One did have some stovepipes but was really dirty and I doubt it was ever cleaned. The other shot pretty well with no malfunctions. I wouldnt hesitate to pick one up.

The only real drawback to the Savage 64 is the lack of a hi-cap mag.

I have the 64FSS (Stainless model w/ synthetic stock). Hasn't seen a feed or ejection issue in 5-6k rounds now. I only paid $265 or so for it new a few years ago.

Pros:
Stainless, very reliable, low price, made in Canada.

Cons:
10 round mags only, barrel must be removed to remove the bolt.
