I wear a blaze orange cheap "Golden Retriever" brand jacket, non-lined, single layer, non-insulated, with long sleeves and hood, way oversized, so I can wear it over anything (shirt, fleece insulation layers, etc.), across the full range of seasonal temperatures. Material is unlined polyester, so it breathes well and dries very fast. Material is quite hydrophobic, so it sheds light rain and dew, and can be soaked in rain or dew and dry quickly. In pouring rain, I can put on a light raincoat underneath it because the jacket is so oversized. The material is silent which is a must.
We have to wear blaze orange head gear in Ontario. My system is a blaze orange ball cap when its warm, and when its cold I pull a blaze orange toque over the ball cap. The orange hood on the jacket comes in handy when bushwhacking after a grouse, to keep all the tree debris from falling down my neck. The balsam fir here in the fall are notorious for dropping needles down one's neck! The hood can be pushed off when not needed.
And the blaze orange hood can fit over the rain jacket hood (which is not blaze orange), again to stay legal in Ontario with head gear blaze orange.
For carriage of gear and birds, I wear a small backpack, which is not blaze orange, so I have to tie a cheap and light no-name blaze orange vest onto the top of the pack and drape it over it in order to be legal for Ontario. (For those not familiar with Ontario rules, the hunter's back cannot be obscured by a non-orange pack).
