Looking for a non-restricted semi-auto black rifle?

Fir 1200 bux you aint gunna get much for a NR black rifle. Youll spend that on a su16 and the AR stock conversion. But its plastic. Same as the norinco. If you want a quality NR black rifle you gotta spend $2500 and up.

Id like to test my SU16 and see how it holds up against a XCR , say 500 rnds continuously mag dumped , using 10 , lar mags. Would 500 rnds be enough or what would be a good test.

Do you guys think an extra 2k for a non restricted is justifiable? Im sorry but Im in the camp of not spending over a months wages on a gun.
If I made silly money, maybe things would be different. However having two kids, a morgage, car payments and so on, money means alot. If I can save 2k and still have a semi auto that may not look the cats ass is fine with me.
Just my 2 cents.

And that is exactly what the su16 is on the market for.. Im not knocking the su16 I had the su16fx paid for in january. I got my money refunded after the barrel fiasco and bought the xcr keymod. i did my homework on the kel tec and thats why i pre ordered it. Theres nothing wrong with it IMO. I shot them a handful of times while waiting for vault to fix things. After trying a few out i was happy but not impressed. And with vaults track record of crappy customer service (kel tec themselves didnt even know what a su16fx was) and the barrel screw ups i shot my friends xcr and was sold.

If the KelTec's shooting 500, you should make the XCR shoot 1000.
Otherwise the XCR shooter has to wait around all day for the KelTec to finish.

:)

A test for what?
you keep saying what a piece of crap an SU 16 is , I recall you were going to buy one , and the only reason you didn't was because of the barrel issue. Now all you keep saying is that the Su 16 is crap and the XCR is the best thing since sliced bread., Personly I think the XCR looks good but is way overpriced and because of my lack of experience with one , that's about the only comment I can make on the XCR. And to answer your Question , I guess I would like to see how my SU 16 holds up against a XCR. Shot for shot mag for mag, just curious to see how the cheap plastic gun does against the expensive Steel gun. Lol

When the hell did i say it was crap? Did you not read my post above lol?
I tell you what, lets see what your reciever and bolt group looks like after 10000+ rounds and ill do tbe same. Fanboys are easily offended lol

CSA Vz58

Light, accurate (albeit some '13 proofed rifles) and most of all "edgy" ;)

I recommend spending the cash on he Zendl mag release and bolt catch from the Czech republic. Yes, The shipping is costly but the quality and ergonomics are excellent.

Its funny how much hate keltec has. If Vault didnt add so much margin and sold them for what they are in the US. I bet tunes would change.
Between my friend and I, we have owned all keltec rifles. Other than his rfb having one issue. They all shoot fine.
Ive also found that most who dislike the keltec have only held one and not even shot it or havent held one at all. Then for some reason they are now keltec experts and know about all their guns. Just cause a few guns have issues doesnt mean every guns a dud.
Youre absolutely right, every gun has its issues... but how many are known to crack right in half, and through the receiver no less. The su16 is a novelty, and hasnt been around long enough to be considered reliable or even viable despite how much you love the looks of it. I get it though, it does look cool, but keltec owners always base the success of their rifles after every outing on whether or not it exploded in their hands. Thats no way to live.

Save up a few extra $$$ and buy an XCR. I just picked one up for $1900 with extra mags and its just awesome. I also have a VZ58 223 and that things runs like a top and accurate. Also have a mini14 (or the wife does) and its unstoppable as well. But the XCR is my go to gun now. Little more money but the extra $$ is noticed in the first 5 minutes at the range.

How are we going to compare your rifle since your selling it to buy an xcr? :) ;)

I would go with a csa vz58 or the mini 14 given those parameters. They are both solid rifles and you cannot go wrong with either. The mini 14s come in many varieties so it gives you lots of options. It can also be heavily modded so it will keep your interests peeked for a long time. The vz58 is just badass looking.. And deadly reliable.

:agree:

Keeping in mind: below $1200, reliable, semi, black-type'ish

In order of my personal choice and personal opinion of reliability. Please no haters. :HR:

SKS: been around the longest. Tons out there. Lots of accessories. Inexpensive. Soviet toughness.

Ruger mini 14: durable and reliable type action, mags are pricey but reliable. Can be had in a stainless version. Lots out there. Built tough.

CSA vz58 .223 or 7.62x39 (the .223 can run a AR-15 mags with an adaptor). Reliability gets mixed reviews. Research it for yourself but remember you hear more of the bad reports then good ones. No news is good news type of thing. The vz58 has arguably a better design then the AK47. Light and tough.

Kel-tec SU-16: light and simple but questionable reliability. Lots love it lots hate it some have had catastrophic receiver failure. My only concern is with the plastic receiver in the -30 Canadian winter. Stuff gets brittle in the cold.

I would love to purchase one of each mentioned. Still deciding myself of which to purchase as a second rifle to my NEA-15 in.223.

Do consider the Norinco T97 as it falls in your guidelines. The Chinese army uses it. I don't know much about it as I'm a lefty so I haven't considered or researched it.

Have fun deciding. :p
