He isn't actually giving his own interpretation of the Law, but rather the possible interpretation of it by a Conservation Officer. Along with his own very extensive experience in the field. So either call him a liar on it or don't, but quit throwing up straw men.

Enforcement by COs can vary a lot depending on the Province, how they're trained, whether they've got a hard-ass personality, if they're a rookie with something to prove, how *you* react to them so they either let something slide or drop the entire code on you, and more. You DO realize you appear to be on completely opposite coasts of this nation?

I've called him a lair... Read between the lines.
It also looks like he is a lair. He can't provide any back up to his storey, no written law, no case law and yet he's seen guys charged with this... In fact he hasn't even told us where he was a guide, only claimed he WAS one.
I know I wouldn't want some half wit that can't work out the law guiding me or my loved ones.

No, these people told the OP how to make a plug. They didn't say anything about law. Anyhow, right or wrong, I think it is ashamed how you stoop to call someone a liar on a public forum over something as trivial as a discussion about a shotgun plug. Mac is not trying to deceive anyone. Maybe he is right, maybe he is wrong, I don't for sure know. And as mentioned, a lot of it comes down to the interpretation of the officer and what he thinks he has to prove. There is also nothing saying you are 100% correct on your statements. I do know that it is appaling to call someone a liar over this and really the moderators should delete such posts.
 
Agree on how to make a plug... The quoted post says nothing about law. I highly doubt that many guys would give illegal advice fwiw..

If you look another poster asked me to call him a lair or not... If he has seen guys charged then he should be able to provide case law... No?

You are missing the point. Many discussions take place on the forum where people disagree with one another's view points. That often happens in discussions. But forum rules clearly state that calling someone names, insulting or using slander will not be tolerated. It is also in bad taste and does nothing to help your image. You should have not responded to the other poster who said to call him a liar or not as that also should not have been suggested in the first place. Just not called for all around.

Get a life and stop making useless posts... If you don't have thick enough skin to get called out on the Internet you shouldn't be posting.
Also, if you don't want to be called a lair, don't lie. Simple.
 
My final lies on this subject .Normally I would be upset with such a personal attack but after the 870 express comments I realised what I was dealing with here and take no satisfaction in continuing to debate / argue this with such a simple sole that clearly has been in the woods too long and not in waterfowl blinds. Nor do I have to prove anything about my experience or background to him or anyone

Anyone that belongs to any of the waterfowl hunting forums knows this plug discussion comes up from time to time regarless if in canada or the US since the regs are no different with respect to plugs
In conclusion people have been charged all because of the fact disassembling the gun is a gray area and as one member stated
Problem is.... dissassembled is a relative term. Some view it as inert... some view it as totally apart.

My only purpose way back of my original post was to share this since I have seen individuals charged when their plug fell out on the ground with just the mag tube nut off and if those here want to take a chance with your chop sticks etc fill your boots and if you hunt enough eventually you will run into a CO that will not agree. To me not worth the risk for such a small cost item

In closing for giggles I called and asked the question here yesterday and was told the plug can be homemade of any material of sufficient length to ensure no more than 2 shells can be fitted in the mag tube but factory is suggested and recommended. It cannot be removed without dissembly of the mag tube. Pending the make the mag tube nut removal could be sufficient however in most cases it is not if the gun can be still fired even once with the cap off. 870's can be fired with no cap, not recommended but can and has been done

So here if your plug fell on the ground with the cap off this dude would not be a happy camper.Probally get a different interputation with every call made in different areas
But there is no gray area. PLEASE
For me since I hunt waterfowl in different provinces and states my plugs will be factory and removed only with hand tools since I know it will not be long until I run into a CO with his special version of the law for these plugs
