Hi.

I am looking to purchase my first 'real" scope (the first was a 4x Bushnell for my 10/22).

I have recently purchased a Husqvarna 9.3x62 from Tradex and I want a scope for it. The iron sights are OK, but my eyes are not what they were and I want better sight of my target. Most of my shooting will be within 200 yards. I can imagine going out to 300 yards.

My budget is a max of $300. I am happy with a used scope, but I am nervous about sight-unseen purchasing.

I have been looking at various brands and reading what I can and I am settled on a 3-9x40, but I would not be against a fixed 4x or 7x. I think I like the idea of some adjustment ability. I am fine with a standard duplex, but I would like a mildot

I have been looking at Bushnell (Dusk to Dawn, Elite 3200 and 4200), Burris Fairfield II, Vortex Crossfires and there are even some well-priced used Leopolds.

Any advice on what to select for this rifle?

Thanks
Greg

I have a Burris 1x5x20 i got off norm99 on this site on my Model 98 9.3x62.I really like the low power on this rifle.(you could try norm 99)

Hi Reb & Cummins4x4. Thanks for your inputs. Interesting that both of you use a variable up to 5x. Less magnification than I expected to consider.

BTW, mine is also an M98.

Thanks
Greg

I have a 2-7 one one, and a straight 3X on the other. The 2-7 is a bit more versatile, but have never had a problem connecting on game with the 3X.

The 9.3 grizzly was at 60 yd and 2X worked just fine.

If I were limited to one scope for all my hunting it would be the 1.5-5x Leupold VariX-III (or VX3). They're bright, compact and tough. They give you the option of turning the power way down if you're in thick bush (slipping through thich willows or jesse is much akin to modern CQB where 1x optics are currently in vogue) and having 5x for longer shots (and 5x is still perfectly adequate for shots to 300 yards and more).

My 9.3 doesn't wear a scope, but if it did I would hang a 1.5-5x Leupold on it. You can probably get a good price on one if you watch the EE.
