I'm looking for a new scope for my .243 Remington 700. I currently have a leupold gold ring 2.5-8 on it, but it's a varmint rifle so I want something with more magnification. I was looking at 4-12 power ish...

I've been told WSS has a bushnell 3200 in 4-12 for sale $280 but the last bushnell I bought was a trophy xlt in 3-9x40 and I can fairly say the only thing it's good for is clubbing fish at the side of a boat, the damn thing won't hold 0 and the POI chnges as you cycle through magnifacations...
Is it likely that I will run into the same problem with the 3600?

I've been told to look at a vortex viper as well.

My budget is 500$ or less before tax. Spending the same amount of money on the scope as the rifle!

Frontier Firearms has the Millett Tactical on sale now for 399.00. They are a dealer at the top of the page. That is the best scope for a less than 500.00 price range IMO.

I have the Millett LRS 6-25x56mm on my .243 and am well pleased with it for yote hunting. I would think the Tactical would be the same.

Cheers

Hahahah I'm not sure if your being sarcastic or not... I have a great tasco on my .270 but it is discontinued and has been for years...
The rifle shoots sub MOA at 100m so I can't complain with the quality if that's what you are getting at!

You can get a Sightron in your price bracket and have one heck of a good scope for the $$$.

Maybe send Jerry at Mystic Precision a pm and see if he can set ya up with a 4-16 or something.

You're beating up on a pretty low end Bushnell. I have a Bushnell Elite and I would'nt trade it for any other brand.

I was just dissapointed by it because I have a lower end bushnell on my ruger 10/22 and it's never given me problems for going on 8 years!
But I kid you not i would litterealy club fish and seals with my trophy xlt before I will put it back on any rifle.

Listen to Kelly, he obviously knows scopes. Great glass on those Sightrons for the price. Function well too.

How about you sell me that 2.5-8 for around four hundy. I Got a 700 Classic .243 that needs glass for close quarter beaver ellimination. Then you take those funds and buy another Leupold VXIII 3.5x10 or 4.5x14.
I have been using the 3.5x10 on a couple 22-250's and a 25-06 for decades with devastating results out to 400+ yards on coyotes.

Tempting, thanks for the offer but the leupold was a gift and I wouldn't feel right selling it, that and I have a place for it on my .303brit.

Sounds like a good plan for that 2.5x8 QuickDraw. If I were you I'd splurge and get another VX3 in that larger magnification you need. Over the years I have at times been tempted by cheaper glass and have regreted it. Always ended up replacing the less expensive scope with a VX3. For every day hunting use, dollar for dollar in the long run, still the best glass out there. I've got VX3's that are close to thirty years vintage and are still killen critters and looken good while doing it! Heck I just got back up from the river where I clocked four beavers last night with a VX3 in the fading light.

The 3200 Elite is a much better scope then the Trophy xlt, I had a 3200 3x9 and really liked it, I would still have it but I wanted a little higher magnification, I also have a trophy xlt on my 243, it's ok for a cheaper scope but I wish I would have spent a little bit more for a better quality scope.

I don't think you'd be disappointed with the 3200 elite

I have a 4200 4-16x50 on my .243 that replaced a 3200 5-15x50. The 3200 was a great scope, worked well and I would recommend one to anyone for a .243 I needed it for a custom 10/22 build and that is the only reason I switched to the 4200 which needed a home anyways.
