A very general rule of thumb (but there are a few exceptions) is pay as much for the scope as the rifle.

Actually, I have no problems spending more for the optics than the rifle.

Mueller Eradicator is awesome for 200$. The best 200$ glass you will ever find. Sightrons are great too and cheap. I bought a used 24X sightron for 200$. It is perfect condition.
