I havent' installed anything on my Sako 85 finnlight yet. Considering scopes 10z and under. It looks like Leupold may have the market cornered on that but Im exploring all options. Might just use a VX 2-7x33 i already have in the house.

My scope choice depends on my hunting conditions. Thick stuff = Lower power/Wide FOV. Open stuff = Higher power/Narrower FOV. A 2-7 is a good all around choice for short range and will still allow for a decent 200-300 yard shot. My Vortex 2-7x35mm Diamondback has a 64' FOV @ 100 yards. It is one of the nicest scopes I have owned.

Fixed is not a bad idea either. when I use 2-7 or 3-9 Im usually always at the lowest power setting anyway. How is the 4X when you are in the Thicker stuff ? @ 9.3 OZ that pretty light.
The fixed fours are good, but the 2x7 has a much better FOV at low power.

Another consideration is the type of hunting you will be doing in the thick stuff. If your just stand sitting, FOV is less important than if your still hunting and may have a shot at a moving deer at close range where the extra FOV will be valuable.

Just installed and sighted in a VX6 on a Remington 700 BDL SS in .280 Remington with DualDoveTail bases and rings.
My hunting does not rely nor worry too much about weight.

The 2-12x42 model? That is the one I have and I really like it.

Pathfinder - take a look at the Swarovski Z3 scopes. The 3-9x36 is 12oz. I have an AV 3-9x36 and also a Leupold 3-9x33 compact and can tell you the Swarovski is worth the extra weight....and then some! The Z3 3-10x42 is 12.7oz, so it also gives you lots of performance for the weight.

My Father in law has the AV, nice scopes but Im really not looking to spend that much. If had the budget I would get one for sure.

FYI they are on sale for $749 at Plain Sight Solutions. But I know that the budget can sometimes (almost always) be the deciding factor!

im a huge fan of the redfield revolution scopes, light weigh, clear glass and quite inexpensive. They are manufactured in the USA by leupold, but i suggest staying away from the revenge line as they are built in china. To me eye relief is a deal breaker, i like the 3.7"-4.2" of eye relief my 3x9x40 revolution has. Doesnt matter how good of quality the scope/glass is, if you cant pick up the deer quickly while it is running away, its $ wasted
