Not sure if this is the section for it but im looking for a precision rifle shooter in Victoria who shoots at the Malahat or another range close to Victoria.

Im new to the "Precision" shooting and just got my first rifle to suit the role and im really looking forward to taking it out and learning how its all done! Ive shot my whole life but never done any bench shooting at a range before just the good old gravel pits when I was younger and then hunting the last 5 years.

I know theres a few Victorian's in this section of the forum that have been at it for far longer than me so im looking to meet up with some locals and have some fun! Also really looking to get into reloading now that ive got my rifle and would love to have a first hand look at it before I start myself.

Thanks!

im always game to go out, i may not be the best shot but i can deffinatly hold my own. i try and get out most weekends, unfortunatly work keeps me tied up dureing the week. if u want, shoot me a PM or somthing. i shoot up at victoria fish and game

Right on, im available Sunday's and mondays aswell so once I get the scope and everything else arrives I will be throwing it on the rifle and taking her out!

I should have everything I need next weekend so im hoping to make it out then! I havent sat down and shot at a range before so im not expecting alot for a first time out with a new rifle haha... I will be happy if I can hit the target! :p

The rifle is a Remington 700 SPS Tac in 308. I would love to try some handloads through it once I get it all sorted out to see what she can do!

For anyone who cares im 20 years old. Im new to this so im looking to just have a good time and learn as I go. Getting out shooting and outdoors in general is half the fun! :)

sounds like you got yourself a nice set up! what are you goin with for a scope and rings etc?

haha im sure u will hit the target, sighting in isnt as bad as you think! dont forget to get your self- bore guide, cleaning rod (1 peice) brush , solvent and patches, you will want to break that rifle in properly to keep it accurate!

if you dont have much shooting experience i wouldn't be to concerned about the handloads to start with, yes its more accurete to shoot, but the best load in the world wont make up for technique! dont get me wrong im not saying dont learn to load, its a great skill to have, im just saying that for starting out

Yeah going to get myself some new cleaning supplies and stuff together for her this friday (payday!)

Im just going to grab a box or two of Federal 150's to start as the local shop wants an arm and a leg for a box of Federal GMM 168's! So I will have to order a box or two of that online when I get a chance.

I got an EWG 1 piece base, TPS rings, and a Falcon Menace 4-14x44 FFP to start me off. Im going to get some other stuff together and eventually going to get myself a Sightron SIII LR. Waiting for the tax return to get some more goodies... hopefully some reloading supplies and maybe some new glass if im lucky :p

that set up should do you nicely, the VFG only goes out to 200 on a flat plane, then to get you to the 270yds it starts to go up a fairly steep hill, and the angle will change your POI a fair bit,

yeah a nice set of cleaning rods/brush is a necessity to break in a rifle properly, so spend the little extra where u can

as for the ammo, once u get up there a box or 2 wont last long haha, hope u take somthing else to shoot!

The nicest ranges on the Island are military ranges and the BCRA has permission to shoot on (some of) them for practices and competitions. The range in Nanaimo goes back to 600yds and has some decent wind now that everything has been logged on the west side. The biggest advantage of military ranges is that they are almost all gallery ranges so the targets are manned and each shot can be indicated with an orange disk in almost real time. The schedual should be coming out soonish, keep an eye on the precision and serve rifle forums.

I wonder how many people from the fish and game club would be interested in coming out for a fun but scored shoot on a real range?

Vanc Island Shooting League VISL shoots a match a month on various ranges on the Island. Any style of shooting is allowed. Classes for TR, bench and F class. Highpower and smallbore shooters encouraged. Our next match is Jan 16th at the Parksville F&G Henry range on Chattell Rd. Starts at 10:00. 100yds on an ISSF bullseye target. Bull is sub-minute and X is about 7/16". Not an easy target to clean all the time. Everyone welcome!

i am in between target rifles at the moment but have some other toys to play with, i even have some hand loads that should work well in your rifle...i know some good spots in the bush that you could stretch the legs of that 308...

Right on! Would love to take her out and stretch her legs! I know a spot locally that should allow me to shoot about 800 yards in the right places. All in time though! Just have to get her finished up first then the fun begins.

Well I got the rifle all together and put some rounds through her today!

Left a big smile on my face thats for sure! :D

Anyone interested in meeting up and hitting the range this sunday??? (16th)

Anyone interested in hitting the range today or this coming monday (31st)? Im home bored and itching to shoot off some rounds! Hevent ever shot rifle at the range and its no fun on your own!

So if anyone is up for hitting the range let me know and I can have all my stuff together and be up there whenever.

Well im up for either Sunday or Monday. Should get the 3 of us out! Ive got some ammo to burn off and an itchy trigger finger! I havent shot my rifle in over 2 weeks!
