Hey folks.

Just looking for a good place to get a shot timer. I'm in southern Ontario so if I can get one from a local retailer that would be great, but not against ordering one.

Any suggestions on a good model? I have no idea what to look for when it comes to these toys.

Thanks for your time.

Mike

I've had an R U Ready for about a year. I don't do anything fancy with it, just drills/training so I can measure my improvements (or lack thereof... :p ). I'm very happy with mine. The RO's have also had the RUR timers at all matches I've been in, so I think they are well trusted (or at least popular) here in Ontario.

I know SFRC (site sponsor) is a dealer.

I'm in the same boat and thinking of ordering a shotmaxx timer from DAA.
Depending on where you are in SO, we could order a couple an save on shipping?
Check them out and let me know.

In my experience, the smart phone based timers are not consistent or accurate enough. They work some of the time. If you are serious about competition, you are going to want a dedicated shot timers.

The newest and most advanced timers are the DAA ShotMaxx timers. We just got them in and they are amazing. Unlike other times that just use a microphone to listen for the sound of the shot, the Shotmaxx is worn like a watch and incorporates an accelerometer which can "Feel" the shot. This means you can shoot right next to someone else at the range and the timer will pick up ONLY your shots. That is a huge advantage! The timer also has adjustable sensitivity to tune out echoes inside or even to pick up airsoft. It is super small and has a built in stop watch, alarm and other functions you would find on a watch. It also has blue tooth connectivity so in the next few months, DAA will release apps for smart phones which will connect to the watch and provide additional functionality like keeping track of your time, statistically info and more.

You can read all the specs on our web site: http://fasttoys.net/ca/Double-Alpha-Canada-Shotmaxx-Watch-Timer/

If you want something a little cheaper, CED makes the 7000T Tactical timer which will do everything you want: http://fasttoys.net/ca/CED-Canada-7000T-Tactical-Timer/

Whatever timer you decide to get, make sure it has adjustable sensitivity and filters so you can adjust it to pick up the shots correctly in your environment. Some timers do not have this feature and they commonly pick up echoes inside which are recorded incorrectly as shots.

I just received notification that there is a firmware update to enable "spy mode" so you can run your timer on your wrist at the same time as the official RO timer. It will start when it senses your arm move. This way you will have all your splits! So cool!
