I'm looking for a shotgun,I don't want to spend a lot of cash.I saw SIR is selling a Maverick 88 12 guage shotgun for $199.What kind of shotgun is it.I'm I going to have a lots of problems with it.Is it a waste of money?Any help would be fine
Thanks.

what do you want the shotgun for? If you want my 2 cents which is why your posting dont go out and buy the first gun you can afford especially if it is a first gun. You will end up with a whole bunch of #### that becomes really difficlut to get rid of. You wont even be able to break even.

Mossberg is a fine gun im sure. Just keep in mind, save your money and buy big at the start. I dont own my first guns anymore they were all cheap.
No sentimental value. Ive only bought used stuff so you can also save that way as well.
If i were you i would find a nice 870 or an 1100 on the used market.
But if i did it all again i would do nothing but save and save and buy
a rem 11/87 premier.

I suggested the 1100 since i had a pump gun to start with. Rem870
Wanted a little more and bought the semi. Its much more versitile.

If all you are looking for is a utility gun to mess around with get the mossy. If your actually want to do trap and other such things dont.

Always buy what you want. If not you know you settled.

Sometimes 200 is a lot of money but 350 isnt far off.
You could have a REM 870 Supermag from SIR
If you want any more help/info just PM me

You'll get some good advice from the guys here generally... and IanC is right -

Most shotgun purchases are about design and function compromises... in other words, until you gather the resources to buy dedicated guns for trap, ducks, upland game, etc, you have to decide what your primary use will be, and choose which design and features fits that scenario the best, with optional capability to do the secondary things.
Keeping in mind of course, that it likely cannot do all things as well as purpose-designed units.

The most versatile shotgun out there, with excellent reliability, is still the 870 remington. Good for trap, ducks, grouse, bears, etc.

Good luck!

Their great reliable guns.

But for $359 you can get a mossberg 535 Combo Field/Deer Wood/Blued Full rifled barrel/Vent rib 12 Ga 24/28"

The 535 are great and have the safety where it should be on al guns.

Sound words indeed, if only every potential gun buyer should read this before making a purchase, we would have more quality products on the market...I am including my self in this statement, damn impulsiveness  :D

If i had taken my advice the only guns I would ever have owned would be:
Rem 1100 2 3/4 trap or now the 1187 3.5 since it handles light loads too.
Ruger 10/22
Rem 552 speedmaster
Rem 870 tactical
marlin 795
These are mine now. Not really looking for anything else either.
I know there are better guns out there but i try to buy the best for the money without skimping out too much. I love used guns!

Hey bushwhacker...I have a Valtro 12 gauge...it's a tactical shotgun with a 7 shot clip...I use it for a backup gun while hunting bears...its short fairly light. and most of all easy to use...I guess it all depends on what u are gonna use your shotgun for....I shoot clays with mine for fun...the price was around $800.00...new...let me know if you would like more info or have any questions.
