Looking for a smith to work on Colt SAA in Canada

I am looking for a gunsmith being able to rechamber a cylinder of a Colt SAA.In Canada or in the States.

Just curious Jean, what caliber do you have and what do you want to change it too? Only ones I can think of are .38/357 .44special/.44-40, or maybe some short .45 to .45 colt.

Hi Rob

The cylinder throats are oversize.458,I am not able to get new cylinders with normal throats .452 I tried brownell's with no luck.My last chance is to take a smaller caliber cylinder (.357 mag)and to rechamber it to normal 45 cl chambering.

Gunparts lists cylinders. Not cheap though. $162US and up. Out of stock, of course.
Mind you, something is telling me your's is fine. .452" is the proper bullet diameter for cast .45 Colt bullets. Add the brass and the throat would be be around .458". Rechambering a .357 to .45 Colt would cost a fortune.

I know the Rugers too to about 1990 had cylinder throats about .457" and it was a problem. They then reduced them. I am not sure what the accuracy of the Colt would be even tightened up, but I know my later Rugers were certainly more accurate than the earlier couple I had.

I'm afraid I don't know of any Canadian 'smiths doing this, but it's relatively common stateside. It does tighten things up from a group perspective, Linebaugh and Bowen both have used this technique. I have hung onto a 357 Colt cylinder for years for just this reason, to build a more accurate SAA. - dan
