You can look all you want in the US but can't buy. The Mueller is hard to come by in Canada, have one, pretty good scope. For target work, min 15-18x, 24 is better, fine crosshairs. Good luck in your search.

I had one and sold it, the clarity was decent, but it would get alot of peripheral darkening if your eye position wasn't perfect. Worst I've ever had. This may not be an issue if you have an adjustable cheek rest or some method of getting your cheek position quickly and repeatably perfect everytime, otherwise I would not recommend this scope. So I sold that scope and got another LRS.

Also, with 8 power magnification it was too cumbersome for quick target acquisition for shooting gophers. It would be quite sufficient for punching paper, but I think there is better scopes out there for the money. I have 2 Millet LRS's, which are a pinch over the OP's price range, but I'm very happy with both (one on my 17 WSM and one on a 300 WM), actually, I'd even say my knock off Leupold mark 4 is a better piece of glass then the Mueller (hate to say it).

The new Nikon's prostaff 7's are pretty sweet, just picked one up for my 9.3x62, I'm quite impressed by the glass.

I've got a barely used Mueller AO 4x16x50 I'll be putting on the EE soon, if anybody needs one.

Yes these mueller scopes seem to be hit or miss. The one I bought was junk out of the box. As the saying goes buy once cry once. To me a life time replacement warranty is important. Votrtex, bushnell have lower end scopes with good warranty.

You can bring a scope into Canada without any problems.

Taking one out of the States, however, can land you in a world of hurt. It's U.S. export restrictions, not Canadian import restrictions, that make this a no-go.

For the lower cost side of things I'd have to suggest Nikon Prostaff scopes. They retain their clarity when zoomed in. And that's something that isn't all that common in the lower cost side of things. A Simmons scope that I picked up based on great reviews on the web for it being a best bang for the buck sort of deal is not as good when zoomed in for seriously small targets. The Nikon I subsequently picked up is far and away a nicer scope for only a little more cost.

One thing with the Nikon scopes is that even the models with the field caps have small thumb wheels under the caps. So they may not be target turrets but at least you don't need a coin to adjust them. They are also settable for "0" by lifting and turning. Check out a few You Tube videos to see this in action.

I purchased a Nikon Prostaff 2-7 scope for my DAR-22. Very happy with it. Another one I considered is the Bushnell AR 22 2-7 with Ballistic Drop Compensation reticle. I have a very cheap Simmons fixed 4x scope on my Marlin 795 and have been very happy with it. Over 3000 rounds in a mix of indoor and outdoor situations (cold, sun, rain, etc) and no issues.

I purchased one Mueller 8-32 target scope on the advice of another Nutter that saw them in local competition ..
I am thrilled with it a great deal and a very bright scope

I have two of these Mueller scopes and they both work nicely. I've had no problems with them. Another inexpensive scope that is good for target shooting and comes with side focus (parallax adjustment) are Hawke Varmint scopes. They are around $250 for the 6-24 model and have a fine mildot reticle that is nice for target work.
