Im looking to get a gun for shooting trap. i hear most o/u are perfered but ive noticed they can get high in price. does anyone reccomend a single shot or pump shotgun for trap shooting at a decent price 300-750$

Remington 870, Mossberg 500, practically anything with a long barrel (30") and a full (or interchangeable) choke. Mind you, these things aren't necessary. I personally use a Stoeger coachgun supreme 20" SxS with an improved cylinder choke, and I'm a clay pigeon's worst nightmare! XD

An o/u is not necessarily preferred although it is a good choice for trap. More people use single bbl traps than any other. Always buy used if possible to get a better gun at a lesser price. Probably the best gun out there close to your price range is a Browning BT99. A used older style in good shape can be had in the $800 range. Check any clubs in your area and put a notice on the board as well as asking people at the club if they know of anything for sale. Also post on line as you just have with a WTB (wanted to buy) post. Rem 1100 auto is also a good choice. Stay away from the Spanish and Turkish brands as they are difficult to repair if needed. Rem 870 pump also a good choice. Some Mossbergs may be ok. If you can afford a used BT99, THAT IS THE WAY TO GO!

Trap guns are designed to shoot high so you hold low on the bird. Field guns like pumps you cover the bird. Find what you prefer and try to shoot as many guns as you can first. I use my mossberg 535 28" barrel full choke for most of my trap now. I can't hit sh*t with a high rib nice trap gun but can run them fairly consistent with a pump

Or look for a nice Winchester model 12 trap gun. They can be found somtimes in your price range. If you get a budget of around $1200 or a little more you can get an Ithaca/SKB 700 O/U trap gun and they shoot great.
