Had a friend contact me asking for a valuation on a few rifles he just inherited, but I am not knowledgeable in Winchester values.

He says it is a Japanese Winchester 101, and a USA Winchester 88.

Any ideas on value that I can pass along?

The pre 64 model 88 has no extra value over the post 64. If you want to get rid of it quick $550 to $650. If you are prepared to wait maybe more. Condition though is everything and what has been shown is not enough to know condition.

Couple of problems'ear.
Hunting and Sporting Arms seem to attract on occasion.............shotguns.
Other problem is lack of photos.

Whilst both seem to look like decent examples, O.P. post more photos of each
and put the 101 in the shot gun section.

Maybe this site could consider the heading of this forum and specify Hunting and Sporting Rifles?

As far as skidderman's comment on "no extra value on pre and post 64's"................ really?

From the few photos of the 88, it appears to be in nice condition, assuming the rest of the rifle is in keeping with what is shown? One thing to note, the scope appears "Euro" and may have a value of it's own.
Skidderman is correct, the value is no greater, but the demand is, which will put the price ahead of a Post 64.
The 101 appears to be in good shape as well. We need more pictures and a better description of it's attributes (barrel length, chokes etc).

Weren't the pre64 Wins cut checkered and post64 pressed checkered?
