Hey all.

The junior shooting team at my gun club is going to be having some "friendly" competition shooting on Thursday nights. Us older guys will be allowed to use 9mm against their 22s.

But I need an excuse to get another gun. Revolver or autoloader is fine, but must be accurate.

What do the gurus recommend?

Revolvers is a no-brainer. Go with the S&W 617... I'm not really sure there is any other serious choice in the resolver market.

As for pistols... this guru says "Whatever quality one fits best in your hand and feels right". I really do like the High Standards; I've had good success with them used ones at very reasonable prices are easy to find, and in fact they are making them again (new company) if a used one just won't do. But the Ruger's and S&W pistols also have well deserved reputations. Don't know much about the Buckmark line and so can't comment.

I think the bottom line is you will equally well served if you choose between the High Standard, Ruger, and S&W - the fit and feel of the gun which suits you best will have a bigger impact than the name on the receiver.

But I like my High Standard. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

cz has a very nice, accurate and dependable .22 pistol out. I`ve shot two of them and they handle well, comfortable and so far very dependable, very similar to the cz 75. Around the 650 to 700 dollars new.
 
I have owned and shot 6 Rugers of various makes. They have all shot extremely well at 20yds and further with dirt cheap ammo. Every one will shoot 1" or better at 20yds which is better then I can hold. Ammo most oftened liked is CCI Blazer. Fed reg. ammo from Wallyland can shoot very well too.

If the pistol will cycle it, trying a few match ammo might just take 1/4" off those groups at 20yds.

I find the Mk1 to be a great inexpensive shooter. I prefer the balance of the tapered 6" (5 1/4"?) barreled one over the non tapered pistol. Drop in a properly tuned trigger group and you have a clean breaking set up.
