I have been shooting a friends MKIII for the past couple of years but he has since moved and took the gun with him. I am now looking to get one myself but noticed that Al Flaherty's is selling a Buck Mark Camper for almost the same price. I have never even held a Camper and none of my local shops have one in stock so I can't take a look. Any advice on which one I should get?

Mark III is a great little pistol. Nothing wrong with the Buckmark, least not the ones I've handled in the past - but my preference has always been the Ruger. Whatever minor feeding issues I had with my MKIII when I first got it, seem to have smoothed out with lots of use. Every bit as good and reliable as the MKIIs, in my experience anyway.

Tough choice. Both are good.

The Buckmark I found handles a bit nicer and the trigger on the ones I've shot were better than my Rugers. The Rugers trigger is decent but not as smooth.

That being said there is something about the Ruger MKIII pistols that I really like. They look great and are fun to shoot.

I have two MKIII ruger pistols. Overall the most versatile is the 5 1/2 " bull barrel version. One recommendation though. Get it in stainless. The stainless Rugers have better fit/finish than the blued. This will be more apparent when you go through the painfull process of trying to put it back together again after cleaning. I had to watch the video. In fact I'd have to watch the video again if I were to clean them. The take down isn't too bad, it's reassembling them.

Thanks for all the advice but Prairie Gun Traders has a deal on the Ruger 22/45 MKIII that I could not pass up. $360 to the door.

Did you get the model ending in RP (Replaceable Panel) where you can replace their factory grips with all kinds of 1911 grips?

Good choice.......the one. complaint l have about the Browning camper is the rear sight comes off when you take the barrel off. Drop a Volquarsen sear in your Ruger!

Both! But if you find a Browning Contour, go for it.
