Looking for advice on powder

If that is what you have it will work.
Nosler and Sierra publish accuracy loads.
If your bullet was named you may get some loads that work for others.
What will you be using it for?

Hornady interlock 150 and 165 grain . Target shooting at first just to see how accurate i am with them , if all is well , possible Deer and Moose .
 
IMR 4320 may work very well indeed.
You will have to try it to find out.

I notice that some posters are very quick to try to discourage you from using this powder.
They should just leave well enough alone.
If they have no experience with 4320 in the 308, then they have no business commenting.

I have burned a fair amount of 4320 in the 308, and, while not always the "best" powder, often was very good.

I also use it a lot in the 303 British, a case with identical capacity to the 308. It shines there.

That's the powder I use for my Ruger 308win as well as my daughter's 308win.
With the Hornady 150 sp I/L's.
She got her first deer with that combo.
 
I just loaded my first 30 rounds of 4320 with 168 gr Amax's. Starting load of 42gr according to one of the books I have.
Had used it years and years ago, and found it pretty well, I recall shooting 1.5" groups at well over 150 yards using a bipod and sandbag.
I recently bought 5 lbs of it at Hummason's - if you're in Ontario, its on sale for $17/lb - $8 cheaper than anywhere else you'll likely find.
I did buy a bunch of H4895 while I was there, as it has been recommended to me by a lot of folks around here.
 
IMR 4320 is excellent powder in your 308. Under a particular 165 grain bullet My rifle will consistently group under 2 inches at 200 yards . I've got a few Black Bear; Moose and Deer that will attest to this powder bullet combination.
A very under-rated powder that just goes about its business well.
Actually the fact that most are on the 4895 or 4064 side it has been one of the great powders still available. Yes forget this post ; all the more for me!

I'll be honest with you all , i didn't even know there were so many different powders available . So much info to sift through .
 
A long time friend of mine only uses imr4320 for reloading his 308's and also credits 4320's low flame temp for long barrel life.
I use it for 223 and I'm using it for light bullets in 243 and 6.5 Swede. In my opinion a great powder. I also buy it from Hummason

Yes IMR 4320 works for the 308, here is an article by German Salazar on loading with it. It is geared toward Palma but if they use it shooting open sighted rifles in national competitions at 1000 yards it will work.

I'm another one that has had good results with Varget, but that doesn't mean that nothing else will work. My shelves are a testimonial to experimental handloading. And some hoarding.
 
4320 is a good powder, iv used it in my .223 rem with very good results also used in my a friends .243 win

.243 is just a 308 case necked down

I would run with 4320, iv found some really good deals on that powder in the past and I regret I didn't buy more

edit: Hummason MFG still has 4320 on for $17 a lb, great deal
