The beretta 391 was a favorite for a lot of shooters as well as the 390 and the 300 series with interchangeable chokes. I used one at one point for 5 years. I shot every clay games with it as well as hunting and it never let me down.

I am near a Bass Pro, I checked online and they have them with synthetic stock only....don't see any in wood.

A cheap semi with removable chokes. Buy the one that fits you best. There is a Rem 1100 2 3/4" with removable chokes on the EE right now for $500 That would not decent clay gun. As long as it fits.

The local one has a wood stocked version for $689 on the shelf.

It would be nice to see a report after 10,000 rounds , to see if they stand up to higher volume shooting.

First it needs to fit you, so hit up your local shops and see what they have and shoulder them to see whats the best fit. Second if you really have the bug like most of us get youll be shooting a lot more then you think because you will start having fun competitions with your buddies and their friends next thing you know youll have a few thousands rounds fired off and with a cheap rig it'll get sloppy, worn and start to fail on you. Buying used quality guns is always a pretty safe bet. I like the Beretta line they fit me well and last a lifetime. I have a thousands through my Stoger M3500 and working on the rounds count on my Excel neither one has ever failed me.

I have couple of members who shoot a Mossberg 930, as long as they are kept clean they are a reliable unit.
