Hey everybody. I'm look at getting a .270 for general purpose medium game (deer). I've been looking at the ruger American and reading good reviews on it as well as the weatherby vanguard 2. Any other suggestions will be helpful. As well as hands on experican with the rifles. And any info and facts on the caliber would be helpful too. Thanks in advance.

Ruger 'Merican would be a good entry level.
S2 would be even better in the tree-oh-ate in me humble opinion.
Ask Douglas, he'll tell ya............

I just got into hunting this year....and it has dominated my life the last few months. I was influenced in a positive way by the guys that "showed me the way" and opted for a .270 too. I went with a Ruger American because of the reviews and price. It is in transit as I type. Another option is the Axis (I-II) from Savage. While Ruger is said to have copied many of the features from the Savage, I just preferred the Ruger. I did consider the Vanguard, but I set a budget and wanted to stick to it.

Ruger American .270
Redfield Scope
EGW rings
Boyds stock

Best Hunting rifle I could find for 349$,

crasheralex, I think you answered your own question in your op. I have a Vanguard (Series I), in .270 Win and prefer it over the Ruger American (I shot my buddy's 7mm-08). Don't let anyone talk you out of the .270 Win, as it's a great do all cartridge, due to today's selection of ammo. All the best:)

For a bit more money I am a big fan of Tikka. I bought one in .22-250. I am now thinking of selling my A-Bolt .270 to replace with a Tikka or Sako.

How about a Mossberg 4x4. WSS had tnem on fir $429. Mine shoots 1"at a 100. Muzzle break reduces recoil significantly. Second choice would be Ruger American. Love mine. Really a case of tweedledee-tweedle dum. Edge to the Mossberg forthe muzzlebreak if recoil is an issue.
