I am looking to get into an AR style firearm, it a new area for me. There is a company called Dark International that imports and sells a version made by Poly- Tech. He is asking 850.00 plus taxes and shipping. Here is my question, does anyone have any experience with the brand (good and bad) and should I be looking at something else. I have always received good information from this site and hope that someone can educate me a bit which in turn would save me some grief. I am a pistol guy and this is new to me. Thanks Brad

Nothing wrong with the rifle but most places sell Poly Tech or Norinco CQ-A for about $700.

It's the cheapest way into the AR game, a good first rifle.

I owned a CQA 10.5 as my first AR. While it wasn't bad, it had a lot to be desired performance wise. I was always dealing with feeding issues, problems with the ambi mag release, and a couple of hard stoppages. When it did shoot it shot flawlessly, decently accurate and very fun to shoot. I would recommend buying a quality AR, even a base model, and go from there. Armalite M15s start at 1150$ roughly for a base model and are great rifles. The advantage of buying a quality base model is that you can modify them as you go once you know what you like or want. Just my .02$

We have two of the Norinco M4 rifles with the 14.5 inch barrels. Absolutely ROCK SOLID & RELIABLE guns. Always work & decently accurate to! My wife even put a PINK stock set on hers, it's the greatest shooting sports ambassador because ALL the girls want to shoot it!

Cheers

P.S. We have since added scopes, but I don't have a pic yet... But here they are!

The Norinco M4 rifles we have were bought from Marstar, a site sponsor here, for $699. I've always had great dealings with Marstar, just bought a Chinese Military SKS from them a couple fridays ago.

Gotta Norc M4 14.5 and no issues at all. I think almost every sponsored site has them in stock - frontier, sfrc, etc. Great gun if you are just starting out.

Even bought a 22lr CMMG conversion if I'm stuck having to shoot indoors (indoor ranges here only allow pistol caliber).

YES, the Norinco takes standard M16 family mags. Most folks run the LAR15 pistol mags so you can run with 10 rounds instead of 5. And yes, it's COMPLETELY LEGAL to use a pistol mag in a rifle.

I'd also recommend the 14.5 inch barrel just because some of the 10.5 inch setups have had some issues. As I said before, out two 14.5 inch barreled M4 rifles have been ROCK SOLID!

Cheers

No problem with the Norinco CQA that I bought from EE. Dunno what the previous two owners put through it but I've put over a 1000 rounds through mine with no problems at all.

Um Wrong, the owner's name is Rodger Katanko and he's the gunsmith at my club.

As for TV-PP's comment, never buying from a company named Dark International, shows alot.

I dont think anyone should actually question where the Poly-tech was being purchased. I was just questioning the manufacturer. His name was actullay given to me by someone in law enforcement and he got it while shooting with the RCMP in Ottawa, so no one is questioning Rodgers credidibility. I am just getting my first AR and wanted some guidance, which I got. Thanks to everyone that posted. I am going to get two (one for my buddy) Norinco from Epps and see how much I use it. I can always upgrade to the next level depending on use.

I think we were getting at the fact that it sounds like some sort of Supervillain organization or something. Personally I buy all my guns from a company named Master of Doom Weapons Inc. It's worth the 30% markup.

I've bought from Dark International before and didn't have any problems with them.

$850 sounds a bit high though for a Polytech.

I have 3 and love all of them. No problems on any of them that are attributable to the guns themselves.
