Hello y'all,

With this stupid ban, I am losing my Ruger AR556 and have a bunch of .223/5.56 stacked up but nothing to shoot it with now. I'd love to hear suggestions for a bolt gun, as I am afraid the Turd and Co. might come after the keltecs/tavors and others soon enough.

I have had quite a few Rugers and never had complaints so far with their semis. I was looking for just a range gun for plinking (our range tops at 100m). So far, I am leaning towards the Ruger American, CZ527 or Mossberg MVP since i can make use of my AR mags. Price is $1000 max and I'd prefer iron sights in a scout-type configuration (I am not too familiar with center fire bolt actions).

Anyone have experience with these or the Savage Scouts in .223? 10 round mags would also be a bonus.

Thanks in advance.

I'm in the same boat, and leaning more towards Ruger American Ranch based on reviews. Because of detachable mags, I wouldn't be surprised to see them on the chopping block at some point though.

As for "ban-proof", did you consider knitting or scrapbooking? :)

knitting involves potentially dangerous somewhat pointy things, scrapbooking might require scissors and glue. "Ban-Proof" would be protesting anything to do with Alberta/BC/Saskatchewan/Manitoba oil, setting fires to rail tracks, blocking major routes...liberal stuff

When places like Egypt went through their revolution, all that the people had were rocks to throw. So it seems like rocks are ban proof.
Alittle draconian i agree but that's where we are being led.

For ban proof... you might wanna check out the slingshot section.....

Those are all great rifles for what you are looking for ..... conversion kit to AR mags are also available to R 700’s. Pick and build... try and have fun with it.

Ps.... luckily the AR still fires.... take it on a long country drive for some air hahaha.

Nothing's ban proof

Unfortunately, you may be right. I though the Mossberg MVP might be decent since it can take my AR mags that are useless right now, but who knows who far these Commie Clowns will go while they are in power. I keep hearing ole Billy red face talking about more mag laws...

I think bolt actions are reasonably safe for at least a couple of years. Failing that...

If you look at other countries for subject lesson, efficient guns are banned first, followed by long(-er) range, then somewhat accurate guns (=all rifles)... if any firearms are allowed after that, it's SxS and O/U shotguns with looong barrels. Handguns are illegal in most places, so it's not a question of "if", but "when"...

Imagine yourself a tyrant / dictator and think of the tools, dangerous for you - including guns - and remove them from general public in order of urgency. Don't forget about those pesky freedom of speech and property rights.
Congratulations! You just completed a first assignment in "Dictatorship 101" course! ;)

As soon as this ban happened I ordered a Ruger American Ranch 556 16” heavy barrel threaded in nice tan stock that takes AR mags. This is going to be my new coyote gun as well. I haven’t received it yet but I purchased from IRG’s and was cheaper than anyone else I could find. Reviews shoe decent accuracy which I really never expect any Ruger to be super accurate but I still love them.

I’m not sure the barrel has the heavy barrel profile, but it is definitly a compact and accurate little rifle. The trigger is very nice too for the price of the gun

Good to know. It looks fairly heavy, not that it matters to me much as I will be carrying this one.
I was just looking at all the 223 ammo I had and said I need something to shoot all that am,o with now.

Mine will arrive in the mail tomorrow. Looks like I got the last one in Canada this time around. I'm not happy about why I bought it but I'm looking forward to putting it through it's paces. I know where to get some red dots for this one, no added cost...

I have one in 300blk, they're not heavy by any means, easily to carry all day , and the trigger is , as has been said , very nice.
