If you just want zoom and crosshairs for a rare day "plinking", any base or scope will do.
HOWEVER...if you are like most people, and intend to use it for consistent repeatable accuracy, a few things:
- check in with the Battle Rifles subforum for tips and advice. There are TONS of different scope mounts for the M-14, 3/4 of which are GARBAGE.
- avoid ANY M-14 scope mount that is aluminum. Use a steel mount or don't even bother. The receivers on this type of rifle actually flex a little, harmonics, and the steel prevents any damage.
- don't go cheap with the scope you pick, but don't go expensive either. Go with a quality scope that's got a middle of the road pricing. The reason? recoil harmonics will wreck a cheap scope in very short order on M-14's. And the recoil harmonics will wreck even a top quality super expensive scope, eventually. So my buddy's advice: go quality without spending a fortune, so that you can buy the eventual replacement.
