Would anyone know of a source in Canada where I could purchase bags or containers of bismuth shot? Preferably number 6.

I hunt migratory birds with an old double that should never see any type of hard shot and bismuth can be used as a direct replacement for lead shot in reloading shotshells.

I know it is usually quite expensive, but I just can't give up using the old 16.

PM sent. Was also some for sale not too long ago on the EE cannot remember the shot size and it may have been corythecowboy had it.Perhaps He will chime in. take care

I didn't have any (I'm selling ITX), but like said above try Bilozir. Another slightly more expensive :)rolleyes:) option is Nice Shot. I like it more than Bismuth and I've ordered it directly from the company and it uses "lead" components (Federal hull, SP16 wad, Longshot powder).

Works like a charm on both ducks and geese. The guys I hunt with are used to me dropping them at ranges they don't even try for. It's a fantastic load that I have been using since the late 80's. although I am almost out of my 571, and IIRC hs7 is the equivalent I need now.

I dropped a Black last September with 1oz of Bismuth at 35+ yards, so I can only imagine what another 1/4oz would do.

I've always thought of taking a stab at reloading Bismuth or Tungsten-Polymer to keep some of the old beauties in the duck blind where they belong but have never pulled the trigger. Will have to get the old Ponsness Warren rolling when I move back South.

My apologies Cory. I thought it was you that had the bismuth and another member had the ITX.
To the OP I would run an WTB in the EE before I buy new since there is definately a member here that had a fair amount of bismuth for sale not too long ago and it never said sold. I cannot remember his handle however, thought it was Cory. Sorry

Bismuth is unreal reminds me of the old lead days. I reloaded it for the 10ga for 2 years after the ban on lead as a back up with the steel I was reloading since it took me a long time to get that steel to where it would kill the way I thought it should. Real expensive however when loading 10ga plus I could only get it in the US then
I was using BB 2 1/4 oz lead for geese the last year we were allowed so you can imagine what a shock I got when shooting steel for the 1st time. Having the 10ga the boys in the blind would always make me shoot my first round when they were done so most of my shots were 45 plus yards and the bismuth would smack them dead. Not planned unless trying to finish off a cripple it also killed quite a few in the 75 plus yard range with the old 10ga. Sometimes when they are going straight away from you in the heat of the moment it is real hard to judge distance until you hear a quack from one of the others in the blind like holy F'k as it folds up. Growing up on the coast long range pass shooting was the norm for geese and sea ducks so long shots common. I will never forget my 1st hunt in PEI and jumping up seeing geese at 15 yards on top of me . Rattled me enough I only fired once. That has changed however ;);)

I keep most of my shots under 50, but the little 16 seems to pattern real nice at those ranges with lead or bismuth, and I'm out of bismuth!!! Going to need some for this fall.

Tha is for all the help fellas!

That is the wise max for the 16ga for sure. Have never tried one of my 16ga with bismuth to be honest, probally should. Take care

A no 6 bismuth pellet leaving a barrel at a certain velocity has the same killing power no matter what gauge it was fired out of. The only difference between a 10 gauge and a 28 gauge is pellet pattern density at the intended target. I have 12 gauges that perform horribly at the same range my 16 does, and my 16 performs poorly compared to those same 12 gauges at closer ranges.

I understand that 2-1/2 ozs of shot will place many more pellets on target, but is has more to do with the choke than anything.

Every interaction I've ever had with Bilozir has been a complete flop.

Not for me. I've had a few and for me once I get my mind ready for the price and the possible 4 month delivery if not in stock which my last order was I am fine. First order after dealing with Ballastic products direct for so many years and finding out they would no longer ship to me was the hardest but other than price and delivery which may be out of his control no issues.

Shiz....so is there a direct replacement for W571 currently available? I can't find another load for 1-1/4 oz lead or bismuth for my old 16 other than the one from the 80's that I was still using.

Maybe Ganderite knows where I can buy a 45 gallon jug of either powder.....lol

Not trying to stir anything up, but have you considered dropping to a 1 1/8oz or even 1oz load?
