looking for Bow on a budget

hey guys, im looking to get into archery/bow hunting. I'm a student at UVic on the rowing team. I'm looking for a bow that i can learn on as well as eventually hunt with. I'm also only able to afford about $200. let me know what you guys think.
 
Are you left handed or right handed? What's your draw length? How many lbs draw?
A friend of mine is selling his PSE Carrera (see pictures below). It's a really nice, high end bow (right handed). He's asking $250.00. Let me know if you're interested.

so.... where's a good site to go to get educated on buying that first bow.
I like my equipment to be quality in every way but i like affordability as well.....
I want a compound bow for hunting deer/moose/elk
I'm 5'10", 170lbs, medium build and i would draw with my right hand , hold the bow with my left.
anyone got some suggestions on the gear and accessories...other than clothing and related items... I got ALL that stuff in spades. I would be spending a few years on the deer before moving on to the larger animals. I would be operating on a budget of 700.00 to 1000.00 everything in.

IMO, the best way to start is to take a course for bow hunters. Cross bows are a bit different story but if you're looking for a compound bow, you may want to go to your local hunting store to measure your draw length first. If you're an average hight medium built guy, your draw length is probably around 29" but you need to make sure before buying a bow. The store should have a measuring arrow if they sell bows. Your draw weight depends on your comfort zone. Most compound bows are adjustable for that. Your budget of $700-$1000 will cover probably everything you need except for really fancy stuff or accessories.

I'm with Raaf - I've screwed around with bows in the past but never seriously.

Anyone got suggestions for recurves? I know compounds are more popular, but something slightly more traditional piques my fancy. Heck, longbow could be fun too, I just don't know enough.
 
im looking for a recurve, ideally a take down for easy of transport. my draw length is 31'. thanks for the feedback so far.
 
They don't have a huge store as they run it out of their home but they can get anything you need and know what their talking about.
The owners Gerald and Shelly both love to talk about archery so be prepared to stay awhile. ;)
