I got eaten alive in last falls archery season in southern sask. This year I'm going to be a little more pro-active and find some sort of bug suit. I was using deep woods off in cunjunction with the therma cell and I still got hammered by skeeters. The thermacell works ok but not when its breezy or when I'm walking. Type of hunting will be spot and stalk for mule deer. Has anyone tried the cabela's bug suit? All reccomendations are appreciated.

Here's something I posted from another site:
I've worked up north a lot in Canada and the mosquitoes are real bad. The only thing that really worked was DEET. Just don't spray it on yourself, that stuff melts plastic. At least flagging tape anyways. I found that spraying it on my shoulders and ballcap worked well. On bad days I would put a bandana under my ballcap foreign legion style and spray it also. As for clothes skeeters have a hard time going through that cotton/poly material that they use in workpants and shirts. I use to wear those standard blue workshop cotton/poly coveralls, they worked real good but you got to spray the spots that they can get in. Nylon windpants and jackets work well also.
I was once working geology up north and a coworker found out the most incredible thing. One time at the end of the day he was waiting for the helicopter and he covered himself with the bright orange helicopter flag to try to catch some shuteye. The skeeters would go under the flag and freak out and try to get out. No bites. I tried it and it really worked.
One treeplanter I worked with did the garlic thing. I don't know if it worked against the skeeters but it sure did against other people, he smelled real bad.

Wear light coloured poly cotton clothing. Tan/khaki is best. It doesn't attract bugs like dark blue or black, doesn't heat up in the sun.

Spray DEET onto your clothes.

Physical barriers like Wood BugOff jackets work well too.

This is your lucky day. If there is a better bugshirt out there I don't know where.

A friend has one. I saw it a week ago and have got to have one. It is roomy and very well made. He is an outdoor photographer and last evening the mosquitos here were out of control. He had no problems.

This style of jacket is terrible to wear if it's hot out. Like a bloody sauna. If you are going to wear a full bug jacket get one of the ones that is all mesh. Still hot in the sun but better.

As stated above spray your clothing with deet. What I prefer is long sleeves and a head net. One of the $3 coarse mesh mosquito ones. Never get the fine mesh no-see-um ones as you can't see out of them. It's amazing how far just having them out of your face will make the problem go away. And remember to spray your shoulders and back as they will bite through your shirt in those places.

If dealing with blackflies do the same but tape your pant and shirt cuffs with electrical tape(stretches a bit) to keep them from crawling in. Also drown your waste band in deet along with the bottom of your shirt(and tucking it in helps as well). For your hands wear gloves or use plenty of bug spray(depending on where you are it's more practical to drown them than try to repel them...).

Have you tried this specific jacket?

This exact brand no. But more or less the exact same style with the cotton and mesh(search any outdoors store...). As stated, even pure mesh is brutal in the sun unless it's a cooler day out. Not saying they won't work I just find them way too hot. Might be different if your not moving around a lot though throughout the day with a heavy load on.

I agree that if you are hiking with a pack or are very active on a hot day, it would be warmer with a jacket than without.

I hate using repellent of any kind,I'm sure not going to 'drown' my waist band in it. I've found a regular long sleeve shirt and regular pants with the cuffs taped to be a lot warmer than the bug shirt.

I've tried several different jackets over he years, taped the cuffs, gloves, deet, head nets and this jacket and pants work the best. It is well vented and well made.

They have spent many years making this product better. It isn't the same product as the China made stuff in Walmart.

There are many different opinions on what is best. Try the product, then give us an opinion. :)

Be the creature with one of these.

I ordered some from ebay.

it is the strongest formula I've found and works well. It is 98% Deet.
Brand name is Ben's. in an orange bottle.
