I have everything except some good data, including powder type and OAL's etc etc to reload some .405 Win cartridges using 400grain lead cast bullets. Anyone out there can help out would be appreciated.

414 gr cast bullet .405 data from Pet Loads.

The most accurate listed is 35 grs of IMR-3031 with a velocity of 1331 fps.

Other loads at normal pressure are:
38.0 grs of H-4895 - 1332 fps
37.0 grs of IMR 3031 - 1450 fps
40.0 grs of IMKR 3031 - 1624 fps

All loads used Federal 210 primers and were loaded to 3.15". The test rifle was a '95 Winchester.

Hello DOH
I have a Ruger #1 in .405 and just got a sizing die for my boolits Friday... For the 400 gr. Data (mine is a 420gr mold) I will be using Hodgdon 2008 Annual Reloading Manual..
They list loads for:
Varget----48 to 52 grs

H4895----45.5 to 50.5grs

H4198----33 to 36.5 grs

And thanks to Boomer I'll check out K.Waters Pet Loads also...

DOH... you might want to go to the castboolit website and do a search there...Not a lot of data on 400 grainer's there but I found data for the RCBS 350/.417 boolit which is suppose to be one of the more accurate boolits in the .405 according to one of the posters there that has a lot of cast boolit shooting experiance...I just got one of these RCBS Molds the week before last..They size down easily to the .414" that I'll try after the 420gr boolit..

What rifle is your .405 chambered in?

In my old tattered copy of the Lyman 1st Edition Handbook of Cast Bullets there are a few loads but for the Lyman #412263 which is a 290gr PB. If it is of any interest to you, let me know.

Hey thanks for the info. My .405 is chambered on a Lee Enfield No4 action, work was done by Lock and Load Edmonton. Its a nice looking No4 on steroids. I will confirm loads for that action before proceeding, as I don't think I can load it too hot, but at least as hot as the orig Winchester lever action I would think? Pics when I get them uploaded

Will the 400 plus grain cast boolet stabilize in the .405 Win? What's the twist?I guess that if it's marginal, you could speed it up some! That RCBS 350 gr. is a nice design, too bad it only comes in single cavity, I have 2 of 'em to speed things up a bit.....Ben
