Hello gents,

Does anyone happen to have load data for 9mm 124gr Lead Round Nose (from Bullet Barn) seized at .357", BHN 25, using Hodgdon CFE Pistol powder?

I checked the three books I had on hand (Hornady 9th, Lyman's 49th and 50th) and the Hodgdon website, and closest load I've found is from Hodgdon, using 125gr Lead Conical Nose seized to .356", with 4.4 - 5.0 gr charge of CFE Pistol using CCI 500 primers and 1.125" COAL.

I found some anecdotal data on various forums, saying they used:
"5.0 CFE under 124gr lrn. I seat to 1.155" ",
"124 gr lrn with 5.0gr CFE-Pistol to a length of 1.150".
"Bullet: Ballisticast 931 Diameter: 0.358" Alloy: Water Quenched Wheel Weights Powder: CFE Pistol Primer: CCI 500 Brass: Federal Nickel (once fired) OAL: 1.125" http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=72670.0 (third post, seems to be the best info I could find)

I suppose it might shoot well enough if I scaled down the charge to 4.3 - 4.9 gr. If I can't find any other data I'll just have to try exactly that. I can also extend the COAL a bit to, say, 1.150" to mitigate peak pressure.

Not overly concerned about the max pressure really (beyond normal concerns I mean, I'm not suicidal!), the Cx4 I'm shooting is rated for +P.

closest load data I have is from the Modern Reloading book amassed and written by John Lee, of Lee reloading tools. Hodgdon CFE powder has a listing for the 125 grain lead bullet and a few other bullet types and weights.

125 grain lead bullet:
CFE pistol start grains 4.4 vel fps 1041 / never exceed 5.0 grains vel fps 1156 pressure 33000 psi MIN OAL 1.125

Thanks, that corroborates everything I've seen to date, much appreciated!

That is a pretty hard bullet!!

I would start at 4gr and work up. For oal use whatever fits in your gun.

I know, I was a mite surprised too, but that's their claim: http://www.thebulletbarn.com/ "Top Quality - Brinell Hardness Level 25" I seriously wondered if I shouldn't just use plated bullet figures for those.

COAL won't be an issue: the leade is so long and gradual in the Cx4 that a plunk test at 2" COAL didn't even leave marks on a RN bullet. I basically tend to use 1.150"-1.160" to minimize the peak chamber pressure anyhow, just on principle.
