Looking for DP-28 Any Ideas?

I asked a question once and was told in no uncertain terms just how stupid it was. Not exactly the best tone to take with a customer.

lol really? I've bought a few things from him over the years. He's an odd duck. He runs the business out of his house.

Hey Smellie, if I had the ability and equipment I would like to make a fake one, but even that I don't know the legalities behind that, seems like replicas in Canada are a big no no!

Your bike sounds pretty fierce! I just bought the Ural. I heard about the BMW Molotov Rippentrop agreement with Russia to build the Ural with the BMW patent. When Russia got distrusting of German they moved the production of the bike closer to inside of Russia, around the Urals.

I wanted to go with the DP28, I like the record player look of it. The DP28 is still in use and a lot cheaper than an MG42 dewat.

Would love to see pics of your bike though!

Suppose you COULD fake a Maxim for the motorcycle. If it had no guts, then it would not even be a proper replica, even under our insane laws. Steel box, steel tube for the jacket. That's it, basically. You would need some lathe time for a booster and flash-hider. Spade grips you can make up out of photos.... or find a set of German ones; there are some around. Or get a set of German ones, copy them and then sell 'em.

A guy could do a pretty good job, starting from half a dozen good photos and some basic dimensions.

Look just awesome, too.

On the other hand, the Ural is pretty much derived from the BMW R75M, so you could fake up an MG-34 easy enough. There are even dummy aluminum receivers around for those. And it's NOT a REPLICA. It is a DISPLAY PIECE. People are gonna see the scoot and scream "German Army!! WOW!!!", so you might as well pander to their little minds.

I had a Harley WLC (Canadian-contract 45) and it was black when I got it. That's all I ever heard was, "Wow! A German Army bike!!!!!". People wouldn't even listen if I told them that it was Canadian. After I painted it canary-yellow with black trim.... THEN they would listen, but not until. Great old bike. Actually got it to 103 mph one night, which is pretty much a record with a military-geared 45, but that was after I shaved the heads for 6:1 compression. They were 5:1 factory so they could run on 74-octane gas.

Have fun with the Ural, but think about a Maxim, too.

Stankovy Pulyemet Maksim 1910 goda. That's the beast for a Ural!

A friend of mine was just in Finland and while there went to a sporting goods/gun store. He sent me a pic of a big box full of dewat DP28's and PPsH's...Not sure how much the guy wanted for them, but my friend said it was pretty expensive being that they were dewats...

I contacted zelenysport and they said they can ship dewats to Canada without a problem. Is that right, or is one of those things where it depends on the Custom's Agent that gets it that day?

MURAT;
I hate to say this BUT your are not correct....
To import deacts you must first bring it in as a live gun, even if it was neutered at origin....
So you must have the license to do that....
Then once imported and registered as a live MG you then certify that it is deactivated and meets Canadian standards, then and only then does it become an official "Decat".

you might want to read John's reply /|\....
