Looking for Experience with AR-15 Form 6 NIA

I've used form 6 NIA's for a few years without incident to take a number of firearms into the States. This includes a .223 marked Stag 2T (16" barrel, obviously).

I'm looking for input from anyone that has direct experience with a 5.56 marked AR-15 having it approved to go back into the states on a temp basis.

There is probably a lot of conjecture out there, but I'd prefer to hear from people that have done it themselves, rather than "my cousin's brother's dog's uncle did it without a problem."

I know the hoops we have to jump through to get Noveske, LMT, etc up here.

I am curious if the reverse is true as well, or if it is less of a problem to re-import 5.56 on a Form 6 NIA, since it is such a temporary measure.

As a follow up question, can anyone with first hand experience comment on Canadian AR-15 brands such as Cadex, NEA, etc (with the 16" barrel to avoid NFA issues) being admissible on a Form 6?

Did you see anywhere on BATF's web site that there's a potential problem doing so? If not, don't worry about it. Simply fill out the Form 6 and send it in with all the requisite information. All US customs is interested in is the approval of the Form 6.

Why do you preceive it to be a problem? What you're doing is not "legally" considered importation because your firearms are not being brought in on a permanent basis.
 
It's not that I anticipate a problem, as much as I was looking for if anyone had any experience with it.

My current form 6 expires soon, and I since I don't own a 5.56 marked rifle yet, probably won't have it on the next one I send in to the ATF.

Since my main desire for a mid-length rifle is for one I can train with in the states, I'm just trying to cover bases before dropping a lot of money on an AR that I can't take with me, that's all.

But you're right, when / if I get a 5.56 marked rifle, I can put it on a form 6, and the worst case scenario is they don't approve it, that's all.
 
I'm due to renew my 6NIA very soon as well. I will be listing my NEA-15 on it along with my other rifles. I'll let you know how I make out.

Of course, I won't be able to cross the border with it until I put a longer barrel on it anyway.
 
If anything DHS will check ser. #'s.
They ain't taking off hand guards/free float tubes to see what's stamped on your barrel.
I have five AR configs listed on my F6NIA...
Two are .223 one is 5.56 one is .22lr and one is 9mm
All approved year after year... YMMV
 
Guys, you know one may (as 'allowed') and can have multiple Form6s? You can put some guns on one and others on another one and mail the applications separately. Tell me you knew that!
And you can re-new your Form6 more often than once a year. Or apply for another one with the guns you just purchased, on it.
Every time Form gets approved it's good for another year, so you may end up with overlapping ones, at least you are not there with expired Form!!

And if you have a gun you are not sure they would approve - send it in as the only gun on that application - if it's not approved, you still have other guns approved on another Form.
 
just place every gun on your form6 that you have. i have over 20 on mine. all the evil ones they just cross off. i print off a separate list and just attach to the form6.

don't forget to include 1000 of Remington 223, 1000 winchester 223, 1000 PMC 223, 1000 Remington 9mm etc.

even if you don't take all the amount, just cover your ass.
 
I got 3000rds of each caliber on mine, and all I say there - "Various factory and Match ammunition made by Applicant" for each caliber.
 
I have my RRA AR15 in 5.56 on my form 6NIA. No problem at all. It's valid until March.

I also cofirmed by phone that it was admisible even though it had a collapsable stock and bayo lug. Took many tries before I got to speak to a real person.

I also put some "feelers" on my 6 for ####s and giggles. My Russian SKS was not allowed, my CZ858 was.

I did a form 6 last year. I recall they would not allow anything under 16" barrel into the country. I took my Bushmaster AR15, 16" barrel. Off the yop of my head I believe caliber is marked .223 though. My other AR was marked 5.56/.223.

The biggest thing on the border agents minds on both sides was that whatever went down to the states, was coming home from the states. Nothing more, nothing less. They did like the AR though!! :ar15:

what 858 do you have? mine keeps getting rejected, machine gun...... i wish.....
 
getting a N.R.A membership might help with legalities...dont know that for a fact ...bbut there will be alot of support on your behalf.....

To be clear...did they say it was a machine gun and reject it? Or do you have one of the short <16 inch barrelled ones?
 
Can't see it being a problem...AFAIK, 556 is a no-no for export, but you're not exporting and not even really importing in this case.
