Looking for feedback on a purchase

Hello everyone,

I have always wanted to get an AR platform rifle and despite shooting quite a few of them, have always found an excuse not to get one.
However, recently I decided to take the plunge and bought a consignment rifle. Apparently, someone bought all the components, paid someone to put them together and then decided they needed money.
I would like to get some feedback and opinions on this build. The specs are below:

Aero precision M4E1 upper/lower
Aero precision R1 mlok handguard - 12"
Ballistic advantage barrel 16" .223 wylde 1/8 416 stainles fluted match barrel
Lantac NiB bolt carrier
JP enhanced bolt
BCM charging handle
BCM pnt trigger
Geissele gas block
Surefire warcomp
PWS buffer and tube
Magpul ctr stock, k2 grip, ambi safety

There were no sights on it, however it did come with a vortex razor amg uh1.
I have some fab defense flip up sights at home.

In your opinion, would it be a good idea to remove the red dot for now and get comfortable with the flip up sights and when I become proficient enough, put the red dot back on?
 
That is a question with many answers. None are incorrect! The old timers will say master the irons and RDS/holos will be easy. The go fast guys will jump straight to any optics and use irons as back ups only. Depends on how much time you want to dedicate to practicing and what you want to accomplish.

Remember that shooting with irons, most people will shoot with their dominant eye only whereas RDS perform best with both eyes open. So there will be a learning curve with either.

Also, look up 1/3 co- witness or straight co- witness for your RDS and BUIS. Both have their proponents. I personally go straight co-witness.

I would like to improve my skills that can transfer over to any firearm that I pick up. Somehow I always felt that unless I'm shooting at longer ranges, having an optic feels almost "unfair", if that makes any sense.
I am a fairly new shooter with most of my experience being with pistols but I think that's because I like to become proficient with one thing before moving onto something else. I am trying to avoid the word "good" as the definition varies from the perspective of different people - what I may consider as being good with a given platform some may consider child's play. When it comes to a skill/hobby like firearms, cutting corners isn't an option for me.

Good call on the co-witness sights, those completely slipped my mind. Thank you.
 
Where are you located? Best way to learn the AR platform is to join a league, like CQB or Action Rifle or take a course. You’ll find many experienced shooters who can offer excellent advice on what you want to achieve. You’ll also get advice on type of gear that work for you vs. against you.


Oh yeah, get a good quality sling also.

I'm in Ontario.
I will be taking a course in January. It seems like there is endless information with respect to the AR platform so I have a lot to learn.
