Hi gang,

I'm new to the market regarding semi-auto handguns. Like most people I have a few hobbies, I'd like to keep this one reasonable for operating cost and am therefore strongly considering .22LR. Does anyone have any hands-on experience with an SR22 to provide some good or bad points? Or alternatives in a similar price point with adjustable sights? Apologies if this has been asked before but a quick search with SR22 came up empty...

From my own experience I've tried out a couple 9mms - a 1911 replica and a Norinco NP22. Although I don't have big hands I preferred the wider grip on the NP22. Absolutely fun firing the 9mm but I'm thinking that at my novice level the .22LR are less than 1/3 the price per round to learn / practice with.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I have the longer barreled SR22 and love the thing. I have bigger hands and it fits ok. Never had a failure to fire nor a jam. However, I only use CCI Mini-Mag hollow points. Highly recommend it. Seems to be decently accurate for a plinking style handgun that mimics a service pistol in DA/SA modes.
One other 22 I could recommend is the Browning Buckmark. Mine is the model with the rail that can mount a red-dot and is extremely accurate. It is SA only and is a target style handgun.

Thanks for the feedback - sounds like I picked a decent unit to look for. I have heard that the CCI Mini-Mags seems to be the best for the majority of 22 semi-autos.

That Buckmark looks fantastic, and with that rail it looks like you'd have a ton of options.

I have an SR22 and have put over 3000 rounds through it. I usually use CCI standard, CCI mini mag or Blazer 38 or 40 grain. It handles all of it. The only negative is aftermarket parts. I am looking for different rear sights and I have only found one manufacturer Williams. In the meantime its a great gun. Lots of fun to shoot.

Here is a link to my rear sight issue that I posted awhile ago. https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/2037414-Ruger-SR-22-Rear-Sight-Issue

I also have a Glock 44 that has run flawlessly. Again I only used the above ammo.
