Looking For First Shotgun

BPS is light years ahead of the 870 Express and Mossberg 535 when it comes to fit and finish. I've owned both the 870 and 535 and have handled and shot a BPS. Don't get me wrong they are decent guns and have their place but in my opinion they are not in the same class as the BPS.

I have both the BPS and an 870 Wingmaster. I really like the BPS but its a pain if you are shooting trap, loading one shell at a time. The wingmaster is a simpler design hence easier to strip and clean. If I could only pick one. BPS all the way for Quality, reliability, bottom eject...

I think the 870 is a very good shotgun for the price. I think the Benelli Nova (not supernova) is quite a bit better for only marginally more and represents better value for a first shotgun. Its durable, has less felt recoil (noticeably so), easier to maintain, and extremely reliable. The supernova is a great shotgun too, a few more improvements over the nova, for about 150$ more. If I'm buying on a budget I'd get the nova (in fact I did about 10 years ago). If I have a budget that includes the supernova I'd get it.

As a new shooter, I love reading threads like this one to help with my future decisions. I'm now drooling over that BPS. ;)

I'm in the same boat. I'm looking to get into trap, but I'm having a real tough time finding trap guns, new or used. I don't want to spend a boatload on a new shotgun if I don't take to the sport. I'd like to spend around $1,000, give or take. The few guys that I've talked to always say the same thing.....look for a used Beretta or Browning. So far I'm coming up short. The one good deal I came across was from a guy at the club who is very well off. He said he'd sell me his Beretta 682 Gold E for $2500 just to help me out. It's basically brand new and everyone tells me they are great guns. Problem is, I'm not sure I really want to spend that much right out of the gate.

Any help/suggestions you guys can give me (websites, store names, etc...) would be greatly appreciated.
