Hey, I want to get a K98k and put German WW2 style scope on it, does anyone know where I could get one, with either the #1 or #4 reticle, it doesnt have to be WW2, post war would be fine, but something more "older looking, thanks.
My advice would be to keep an eye on Ebay for a Zeiss Zielvier. They are period correct and you can get them between $300-500 on Ebay sometimes. If you do go the old scope route, I would stay away from scopes that have the mounting rail along the bottom of the tube. (Mostly post war scopes) They will require a special mount to get them on a K98 and regular scope rings won't fit around them. Iron Elite make a nice set of repro high turret mounts for K98's. Call them as they are not listed on their website, only their cantilever mount.
For a cheaper route, you might want to check out an old Weaver K4 with a set of ultra high rings. They have steel scope tubes and have that old scope look.
i built one on a K98 useing a ZARAC mount. used an old weaver 4 power post scope. looks pritty good, pritty close. and it shoots goot , thats the best part
Weaver's have a variety of reticles, I think most are the standard crosshairs but they did make some with the European reticle as well. (thick picket with the two horizontal crossbars).
I have a link to all his scoeps for sale, but I dont know what size I would use, I need it for hunting, so what is the generic magnifaction for hunting scopes ? thanks.
Be careful about that one on the link though, it has a mounting rail on the bottom of it and that can make it hard to mount without a special 'claw' mount that grabs the rail. Pre-war and WW2 Zielviers had no rail on the bottom. Here is a prewar scope that would be correct on a K98, looks to be in great condition: http://cgi.ebay.com/HENSOLDT-SNIPER...595607889QQcategoryZ36049QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
The Zielvier (and the Hensoldt Dialytian) is a fixed 4x scope which is a popular hunting magnification. That is a personal choice though as well as dependent on terrain and a bunch of other factors. The fixed 4X will give you a lot of wide range of view and should be consistent up to 200 to 300 meters with deer size targets, IMHO. (maybe farther though)
