I'm new, going the the range sunday, starting off with 100-200 yds with XCR-M 308.

Any recommendations for good/great binos'? I'm hoping to stay at or under 1000.00
I have a great rangefinder already (Leica CRF 1600) but want something to have instant feedback on my initial groups. Just general names would help, or names to avoid as well.
thanks!

A spotting scope is likely a better option if you are trying to track shots on paper at the range.

Really? For some reason I thought at my noob skill level I'd have trouble using a spotting scope. But yes, it's going to be paper for a good long time. I'll have a look at Cabelas after work.

Yup! For paper targets on the range a spotter and tripod can't be beat!

Don't go cheap though! A $100 unit will just make you angry.

I'd look at the Vortex Viper line. Between the different configurations you can get Vipers anywhere from $500-$1000

Don't buy a $20 tripod either ;) they shake!

$80-$150 will get you something solid.

I stopped at Cabelas last night and was shocked at how BIG a spotting scope is. Took a look at the Bushnell Elite for 1069, but figured I'll wait b/c I'm going to MilArm and P&D today. I've got a very sturdy manfrotto (350$) but that might be overkill. Will see what they have as well. Thanks guys!

Give a call to Doug @ Camera Land (A site sponsor). He often has great deal of 'demo'...

I've been thinking about adding a Minox MD50 to my range bag.

I have the straight version of the MD50. I say it's excellent for the price.

Site sponsor CameraLandNY has a great selection of optics at very competitive prices and a very good reputation amongst the Gunnutz for their service. It's always a good idea to at least comparison shop their website.

Great advice, thank you! Especially from my homeland, Saskatoon (lived 6 blocks from the U. for about 9 years). Is Louis's pub even still there?
Thanks for the info. I'll spend much more time researching.

Think about the Pentax PF 65 ED (I own the 80mm version) they are fantastic spotters for the price. Camera Land usually has a demo model in their list.

Mine was a "demo" and you could not even tell it from new.

Demo Unit Price: $749.99
Straight Unit - With Zoom Eyepiece
Includes Field Case
