So I'm finally getting it together and building an AR :D

I already have a Vltor MUR upper and one of the new Diamondhead free float handguards on its way but the next thing I'm looking for is a good quality barrel in a 5.56 (or .223 wylde). I'm wanting a 16" barrel with mid length gas system, preferrably in a mid-heavier contour (but that's not a deal breaker if it's a lighter contour) so I can get some good accuracy and range out of it, but still be usable for 3-gun shooting.

I would PREFER a cold hammer forged barrel as I want the barrel to last a good long time. Been looking into BCM, Daniel Defense, Noveske, and ATRS (although not hammer forged they are good barrels). Would also Prefer a 4150/CMV etc... barrel, again for longer life hopefully.

Questar has a good solid one on their website from Noveske, but it's listed as "No Delivery Estimate available (25% deposit req'd)" https://shopquestar.com/shopping65/shopexd.asp?id=1875&bc=no

Also Canadian Tactical Cowboy Supplies has an "unknown" manufacture on their site as a 16" mid length CMV barrel but not in stock right now: http://ctcsupplies.ca/collections/barrels/products/16-hammer-forged-chrome-lined-barrel

So for being willing to spend that much on a barrel, do you guys have any suggestions as to what the best one would be? I'm not in any rush for it, but I'd like to complete the upper first before I start working on the lower. Been looking on quite a few vendors sites and not too much for barrels in stock right now!

Any suggestions would be great ;)

Its going to be crazy finding all the parts to build an AR right now, especially at a decent price..

True, which is why I'm building it bit by bit, if it takes a few months to find a Barrel that's what I'm expecting right now. Not even looking into lower receiver stuff right now. Just jumping on parts as they become available, and if I buy a cheaper lower and upgrade it then that's fine I just want a rock solid upper!

More concerned with the quality of the barrels and what would be the best one, then I can wait around to pounce on it as it comes in!

Watch Fabsports.

He gets in Spikes, WhiteOak and Noveske barrels all the time. Just have to be quick and grab them.

When I am looking for something....I check his site everyday. It has paid off with some great gear.

Same with Questar, call or email them and ask if they have something coming in. Or something not on the website.

Didn't actually think of Fabsports, kind of forgot about them. I will put them on my "keep an eye on" list! Thanks!

AFAIK the ones from CTCSupplies are Palmetto State Armory.

Cool, I looked into it and it appears that perticular barrel is a PSA (picture is identical) which is a hammer forged CMV barrel. Pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, so I'll give Phil an Email and see if he has any ETA on them.

We have Rainier Arms Select and Match series on order which hopefully will be on the way to us by the end of the month.

Select 14" in 5.56 and a few Ultramatch 20" in 223 Wylde should be the first ones to arrive though.

I'll look into it but I would prefer a 16" over the 14.5". They look like very nice barrels though!

I really like the 16" med-contour barrel they have on their site! :D

Just an FYI update, I decided on the Questar barrel they have under their name. According to Scott they are a hammer forged barrel but no info on material, however I'm not too concerned as it's not going to be a GPMG :p

So for anyone looking for a nice lightweigth 16" midlength CHF barrel, the Questar one should be a good option. I'll maybe post some more info when I get my hands on it, if any more info is to be had.
