My usual gunsmith dont do silver solder. I need a gunsmith who can replace a bolt handle on a Remington 700 bolt body.

Any help/recommandations would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Silver soldered bolt handle might be not strong enough.
( the "silver solder" might have only 5% silver content, couple percent copper and over 90% lead....)
Remington is brazing them ( much stronger method) but still not strong enough.
IMHO if you insist to own Rem mod 700.... try to find somebody who would tig weld your bolt handle.
GR8's 2c worth.

The correct term is Silbrazing. Higher temperature required as it has a much higher silver content. I do agree that tig would be a better option.

In my experience, when the come off, you can usually see that the factory braze was not uniform through the whole contact area. When they re re-done properly, I've yet to see one come off a second time.

They can be TIG welded, but generally it's not needed.

That's my experience as well...

any disadvantages to tig welding the handle on? ( looking t my remington and knocking on wood )

If you ever need to replace it after Tig welding it would require machining the old bolt off. I wouldn't worry about your present handle... percentage wise not many come off...
