There are no non-prohibited Hi Point pistols as far as I know. The OP said "9mm." Glock on the other hand offers several 9mms that are restricted.
Personally I vote for the P226 platform for comfort, function and reliability.
You should see if you can find a range that rents handguns, and try some out. Or find a bunch of friends who will let you try out their handguns. I tried the P226 and a CZ75 at a range in Edmonton and found I really liked the P226 better, although I definitely liked the CZ75 too. I have tried out some friends' CZ, 1911, TT33, S&W M&P5, Glock 17 and several revolvers, and it was very instructive!
Glock 9mm (you don't need any caliber greater than 9mm) for target practices. For kicks and more kicks, 1911 .45ACP (these two are the most common calibers available)
People will have all sorts of suggestions, the gun for you is the one that fits you best. I love my browning hi power but after shooting a glock 17 I'm looking to buy one.
Depends what you want to do with it. If you want a nice IPSC production gun, the CZ Shadow is the one. To make it fit perfect, there are various grips you can get and still be Production legal. If you only want bullseye shooting, then it all depends how deep your pockets are ; )
